hello Kim
i would like show you some little work in progress in auctiondata: http://www.entropiabay.com/auctionit...asp?CatID=2156 this is one of the example of how data can be sorted in a way planet specific. How clearly is shown is very possible buy cheap in a planet and sell at higher price in another. This kind of analysis can actually bust the universe trading. Also for this reason i would like have better data about expiring auction items (BO) and chat globals, in an rss way or api or wathever you want also in a one way only (we read only what MA give us). Now not the MA opinion but what you opinion like EU player??? thx DC |

Hi,
a bump. And an addition: There's people that don't want to be tracked, for different reasons. This is IMHO legitimate and needs no further explanation, at least not in this thread where it would be vastly off topic. A feed from MA could solve a lot of problems here - at the moment above mentioned people need to find & contact any tracker running out there to opt out, which is impossible. If MA would offer some direct tracker data stream, best done working together with the developers of the various trackers, MA could easily improve the protection of the privacy of its participants. With an option in the client loader: Quote:
"Bogus name" would be a short string that you could have created in your account control panel on the official website, an auto-generated mix of numbers and letters (to prevent impersonation and bad language). Examples how this would look like:
Hey, this could even be applied to the global chat in game! I'm sure this would make all participants happy: Everything would be tracked, so the trackers would have perfect data, and wouldn't need to care for those privacy fiends anymore. Everybody could adjust the way it's been tracked suiting all wishes. For the tech details: An easy solution would be a simple page on the EU main site, displaying the contents of a text file continuously generated & updated by the game engine, with the globals. Holding maybe the last hour (or less) of events, in an abbreviated form to save bandwidth. With a planet descriptor, for sure. This page would be protected, and access would be given to revised tracker sites only, with adjusted maximal refresh rates, to prevent overloading. Quite simple for a tracker site to have a self made tool running that collects the data every x minutes, right? Parsing and appending the new entries to it's database should be simple. For sure there'd be more advanced techniques, but K.I.S.S always is not to be ignored ... Have a good time, and best wishes that Kim takes notice of this thread and replys! PS & Edit: MA should really get developed something in this way, IMHO, a safe way to give important game data out to interested participants, that then could work with it and contribute to the benefit of all the participants. It's important that such is been done by MA, because only then they have control over it. This is regarding tracker data as well as auction data, maybe even shop/ shopkeeper trades. It'd be most important that the community would have clear and reliable data about this. The current situation, with it's privacy issues, unreliable data, everybody and it's mother OCR'ing all that moves, and the resulting uncertainty isn't beneficial at all. With quite little effort MA could offer a lot more of service, and a lot more of gaming experience here, IMHO. Last edited by Xandra; 09-05-2011 at 09:35. Reason: adding PS |
