I'm just gonna go by my own numbers:
Crafting yields on average 5% TT material returns.
So say you craft basic screws, which only require 1 iron each. As such, the returns will let you craft again.
However, 1000 PED iron would give 50 PED mat. returns. In turn, these would give 2,5 PED mat. returns. So 1000 PED TT iron would let you craft for
~1053 PED TT iron.

In other words: Quite improbable, unless I missed something.

I think he means the case where you get back some of the actual materials you use rather than residue - that you at some of the clicks of (let's say) basic screws, instead of 5 pec residue, you'll get an iron ingot back.
