Can not drop/place my hoverpod

Hi,
I am new here and am having a problem with my hoverpod. I received it to do a mission - the one where you have to check on the watch towers. The problem is I can not place it on the ground.
I ca select it in my inventory and click the "Spawn" button. The hoverpod pops up but will not let me place it on the ground, I know it has to be in certain areas but this is not the problem, The arrows etc at the bottom are showing green, I just can't put it on the ground and it wanders around stuck in front of me.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
