I wish I could change my avatar name to Adolf Hitler. Is just a name. Only insane people care about that.
If my name would be Hitler, you think we could not be friends anymore?

And as a side note.... except for the fact that you have learned that you have to hate the nazists, and all those lines, you actually know anything about that part of history? What happened? Why?

I see hate as an excuse for ignorance more than anything else. Murders just as bad as in WW2 happened after, but no one bans any American or Israeli names for example... Give it a break.

The history of Bismarck as a person and also the battleship is well known. As a German, one can not get around to it intensely.

Of course, the Bismarck in the time probably was the best warship together with the sistership Tierpitz. Yet the flavor of the Nazi regime is associated with this ship.

It's my opinion on the name and i know that many other don't care or even not connect the name with the regime from the war.
And what dare I ask is your version of the history of Bismarck as a person?

Because the accepted version is the Otto von Bismarck unified Germany, was an excellent statesman, and by almost all accounts (yours being outstanding) he was a hero to the German people.

Hence why later regimes named a battleship after him.

The person had nothing to do with Nazis or their credo, other than perhaps their leaders learning about him in Elementary school.

Yawn. Joey, my cousin (a juvenile kangaroo, by the way) finds your forum name offensive. Please change yours.

The name Bismark can be referenced to a lot of things.

    Regarding the German battleship Bismark...

It was in fact the largest battleship built by Germany or any European country.

The ship conducted only one offensive mission before being destroyed which only illiterates the ineptitude, short sightedness, and poor strategy of its German designers and operators.

In its single offensive mission it destroyed the HMS Hood which was at the time the pride of the Royal Navy. This kind of encounter is exactly what the Bismark was built for.

Two days after sinking the Hood, it was en route to hide near occupied France when something called a "Fairey Swordfish" torpedo bomber crippled the ship. The next day it sunk.

Now if I built the biggest battleship ever and it got sunk two days after its first mission by something called a "Fairy" then I most certainly would feel like a dumb ass.

While being the most ominous ship built, it proved to be nothing more then a paper tiger.

I like the name Bismark exspecially for a mothership. While being the titans of space they currently can be dropped as easy as the Bismark back then when missing the escort. The name refers to one of the greatest german politicians known to secure peace within europe in a time of conflicts. The strength of his personality and his foresight made germany a strong and respected country back then without the need of utilizing weaponry.

And one of the ships who was engaged in sinking the Bismarck was the aircraft carrier Ark Royal.

Finally, these are only names. If you like to interprete something into it it is up to you.

    cheers,
