Some people do role play ingame.

like me , I don't log off ever ,,, though if I get ctd or going away irl
I do everything ingame with the stuff provided ingame.

If you attach a space thruster to a quad (or sleipnir), it can be used to cross the space/planet barrier. A thruster is not required to actually fly through space.

Attaching a thruster to a vehicle is like attaching an amp to a gun - just drag the thruster icon over the ship icon in inventory.

Quads are about twice the speed of a sleipnir in space.

Being 'small' ships, neither quads nor sleipnirs can have warp drives attached. Those are currently only available for use on privateers or motherships.
