Angry Nice Repression, Mr. Capital (RE: Logging off ruins Space Economy)

Hello, EU. I'm a very new player who was having a lot of fun playing Entropia until I spent a little time on this forum and discovered how lazy and negligent MA is in its management of the game and care of its players. I have seen multiple examples of this in different sections of the forum. JohnCapital's locking of Stagger's very legitimate and insightful post is just one such example, albeit certainly not the worst. Hey Mr. Capital, emotional discussions happen on forums, especially when people are already irritated by all the bugs they're experiencing and the lack of actual support from the "support" department. As a moderator, it is your job to manage such discussions, and deal appropriately with posters who violate the rules of the forum; not simply lock up a pertinent discussion because a few people who can't control their emotions flamed out in the past.

While I'd imagine Mr. Capital locked that thread simply to avoid dealing with the hyper-aggro trolls who would gravitate to it, it also does seem to help MA dodge a very real discussion about a very real problem in space. I'm not a pirate, I'm a rank noob-I can't take down a level 5 exarosaur much less a mothership-but if space is supposed to be lootable pvp then it should be lootable pvp; not lootable pvp with a backdoor loophole that prevents 80% of actual looting. This loophole affects the entire "real cash economy" and gameplay experience, not just pirates. For example, people paying money for the "opportunity" to repair someone else's motherships is absolutely preposterous and flies in the face of the "real cash economy" concept. Who in their right mind would ever pay someone for the privilege of using their own equipment to do work for them? If there were actual risk in space flight, MS owners would actually have to pay people to repair their ships and man their turrets; creating EU jobs and stimulating the EU economy while making the "real" in "cash economy" a little more believable. This allows noobs to get into space and actually have a little fun in between sweating excursions, helping to retain new players to further improve the economy and gameplay experience of EU. It would create a whole market for protection services, as those space pilots who want to warm up their Kismets but don't want to be pirates now have a chance to use their pvp pilot skills for "good" and actually make some PED by escorting vulnerable trade ships. These costs would, in turn, be passed on to those traders who make so much PED shuttling goods back and forth between planets (currently at no real risk); which would in turn lead to increased prices on various commodoties, so even planet-bound hunters and miners would see the value of their goods increasing. So, yes, pirates being able to operate does affect the ENTIRE EU economy; and their current inability to do so is hampering the development of space gameplay as well as the economy.

Mr. Capital, I apologize if I've been overly harsh, you're probably a real cool guy; but I just really hate to see legitimate and pertinent discussions have a fist clamped on them. If a few people can't handle it, deal with those people, don't terminate a discussion that really needs to be had because of a few jerk-offs who can't contain their emotions long enough to deal with an inconvenient truth.

There has been ample discussion of this issue cos Stagger keeps on posting his issue on multiple forums. How many times do we need to see the same thread?

Thanks for pointing that out, Serica, but in my experience forum rules are somewhat flexible as long as you don't make a total ass of yourself, which hopefully I have not done here. Kikki, I haven't been around long enough to know, really, so I realize I could be wrong here; but from what I can tell Stagger has been met with flaming and thread locks, which does not constitute ample discussion in my book. So, if he continues trying to raise the topic it is probably because he wants his message to be heard and taken seriously, and/or to reach a critical mass of awareness and discussion of the issue to motivate MA to actually do something about it.

Theh... like Nietzsche said: How much truth can a spirit bear, how much truth can a spirit dare?

Then again, i don't think it would change much if we speak about these problems on the forums or not. No doubt MA knows all this and more...
MA problems are most likely purely technical - not enough manpower and resources to advance all parts of the Universe as fast as we, users, would like.

This is where experience before posting would serve you well. It's always a good idea to resist the urge to make speeches until you're actually familiar with issues under discussion. I sometimes have problems with that myself, so don't take that as a personal insult, just a word of advice. There are reasons why stagger provokes negative reactions from other players, and I can say it's certainly not because he's the bastion of truth on the forums or because the moderators are trying to manipulate MindArk.

Trust me, there have been ample discussions on these matters. I'm not going to reiterate everything here, but everyone involved in space knows the issues and MindArk is fully aware of what features they currently want in space, even if they are tight-lipped about it. Pirates already have every advantage when it comes to space. If you don't believe me, try doing any kind of anti-piracy work. I assure you, MindArk has reacted with lightning speed to any actual bugs that give travelers an unfair advantage over pirates, even ones that are not publicized on the forums.

So basically.... when in doubt, follow the forum rules. They're there for good reason.

If you have an issue with how the forum is being moderated, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any forum page.

Debating the forum rules or criticising the actions of moderators enforcing the forum rules is not allowing, since the only thing accomplished by such threads is an escalation of unnecessary drama and discontent.
