No I am not missing out on that option. But then you will be putting another card in, as long as you have the power supply to deal with the added demand, to a MB that is nearing the end of its life cycle. Intel will be switching to 1600Mhz FSB so at minimum an x38 chipset or better yet an x45 will be needed for Penryn not to mention PCIe 2.0. If you are using or planning an AMD setup the situation only gets murkier AM2, AM3+ and eventually Swift which uses yet another socket. Further the 8800 series is at the end of its lifecycle and is DX10 gen 1. D9E will be the second generation for DX10 from NVIDIA.
Again the choice is yours to make I prefer single card lower power and quieter solutions than those offered from an SLI setup. Make up you own mind I just tried to bring a more sensible approach to the discussion.
