I agree - this is a "non-game" where ppl from all over the world are meeting and communicating. This is impossible without the usage of one language as "least common denominator" - and the English language has proved to suit this well.
Not because it would be a beautiful language, not because the native speakers would be of more importance - only because it's a very simple language, very fast to learn enough to be able to communicate, and teched in many countries as one of the first foreign languages. Wherever in this world ppl from different countries are meeting chances are very high they'll use English to understand each other.
It would be very frustrating for most of us seeing the chat cluttered up into an Babylonian confusion of languages, as we know it from some other games! At the moment the English client works as kind of "filter" that encourages the usage of the English language, and discourages people not able or willing to use this "least common denominator" language.
I understand MA wants to draw in as many people as possible, but offering language specific clients might be, in my humble opinion, a grave mistake that had the potential to destroy a lot of atmosphere in the EU.

PS: I'm no native English speaker myself, but I'd never use an German client, and I refuse to type German in game besides maybe private chat. And when I tested a game that maybe one day might become a competitor for
EU the thing that bothered me most was the Babylonian chaos in chat - I'd like to provide a screenshot to demonstrate, but I guess this would get me tared and feathered ... ;-)
