Entropia Museum of Fine Arts: 2008 Guide

Guide to the Entropia Museum of Fine Arts 2008

Billton Tower 1, 4h, 4a and 4b

The Museum of Fine Arts is in the city of New Oxford, at Billton Tower 1, in Apartments 4h, 4a and 4b. The tower is 150 metres east of Billton Towers TP. To reach it from the New Oxford TP run up to the Deer and turn left- the tower is just past the New Oxford Art Galleries.

Introduction

Since the 2007 summer exhibition opened I have continued collecting pictures for the art museum. The museum now has over 60 pictures by 42 different artists. Many thanks to all the artists who have helped in building this collection. To display their work better the museum has now been expanded to three galleries (plus a private workshop for storage).

The main themes of the three galleries are People, Creatures and Settings, with several abstracts also on show. Many works were inspired by peoples’ experiences in Entropia but others are based on Earth scenes, or set on other planets altogether. Exhibits include work by the original anonymous MA artists (the famous “Raven Valley” school of painting J ), by professional artists but are now mostly by Entropian players themselves.

The info on the picture will tell you who “framed” it; usually this is the artist, but sometimes not. You will also find some “n/a” listed pictures. This label was used for the very earliest personal content pictures, produced in the few weeks before MA introduced artist naming. The name of each artist is given in the gallery listings below, followed where appropriate by the framer’s name or the n/a label in brackets. A few of the pictures were bought at auction; for these the framer is assumed also to be the original artist- any corrections would be welcome.

Gallery 4h: Creatures

These pictures range in style and technical approach from Theconsul’s witty cat picture through the original copy of Bear’s now-famous Aquarium and on to one of John B Knight’s animated pictures. Look out too for Slapnut’s majestic eagle photograph and George Maxon’s Lotek.

Artists represented in this gallery include: Jared Lyell (framed by Bob da'mon), Marianne Red Witch, Hulyss, Slapnuts, Theconsul, Ratae, Billgren, Nutter/Sanity, Bear, Choi Tae Young and Jannis (work from both these listed n/a though actually framed by CBB), Earl von Kippler, Karadi, Fin, John B Knight, the Raven Valley artists and George Maxon (Hermann von Steppenwolf).

Gallery 4a: Settings

Most of the pictures on show in this gallery are landscapes or cityscapes, with both Earth and Entropian locations represented. These show a wide range of styles and atmospheres, from Karadi’s abstracts through the magical landscapes of Onciest and Hrafninn to Lexi’s representational New Switzerland picture. The contrasting nature pictures of LeeLoo and Theconsul illustrate another strand of development.

Artists represented include: Pavel Ivanov, Founder, Pythales, Branan, Silva, Arjuna, DeMuro, Smarty, Hrafninn (n/a), Janna, Lexxy, Onciest, Lexi, LeeLoo, Fin, the Raven Valley artists, and Theconsul.

Gallery 4b: People

These pictures very greatly in the emotions and relationships they portray, ranging from the silent introspection of Jamira’s powerfist boxer to the tenderness of Tidesong’s moonlit couple. Rick van Koert’s work is represented by one of his Oasis pictures. Look out too for Elizabeth Golding’s interesting Wolf Pack picture/recruitment video.

Artists represented in this gallery include: Bodybag, Onciest, Prozac, Bear, Jamira, Spiiral (one signed, one n/a), Nutter/Sanity, Elizabeth Golding, Kostabi, the Raven Valley artists, Rick van Koert, Tidesong, Fin and Lykke.

How do you create pictures?

For technical advice on how to create your own pictures in EU go to the Participant Guide link on the top of the EU login page and look under Ads. In addition Ido has done a very clear and helpful step by step guide; you can find this at the start of this section of the Forum.

Where can you buy pictures like these?

The pictures on display are not themselves for sale, but nearly all EU artists sell their pictures, usually through shops, galleries or by auction. To find out more check other threads in the EU Art section of Entropia Forum. Alternatively you can send the artist a personal message through the Forum. If you are not sure who created a museum picture you like I will be happy to help.

The professional paintings introduced by MA can be bought in auction or by visiting the New Oxford Art Galleries. These galleries are visible (together with a very impressive view of New Oxford) from the 4h Gallery balcony. The early Raven Valley School paintings can be found in auction or in some Entropia shops.

Enjoy your visit; I hope you get as much pleasure from seeing the work of all these artists as I have done J
