It's simply the market value of the textures. Comapare with "standard dampers" whos value is right exact 1.0 even though cost of oil and lyst is above 100%. Typically, I guess that most of the high volume textures (the "TT-bp" one, for instance) is mainly used for skilling. The one who skills using this BP are likely not to have the texturizer(L)+bleacher(L) combo (an investment of more than 100 ped total), but might be a low-level hunter who have looted the extractors and the wool by them selves. And, if he can use the materials to skill upp and then sell to someone who can use it for texture skilling at a reasonable cost, I think that is good. I myself sometime use orange color I get from auction just for skilling (well simply because the more usable colors are way to expensive for raw skilling), and because the way it works, having markup of 120% instead of 110% would efficiently double the cost of skilling.
As for other textures being cheap, it's also (probably) a matter of that few players are at the level to use them efficiently, leading to few buyers. (Compare to the new (L) faps - where SK50 is rare and sold for at least 150%, but uberones that probably no one can use seriously are sold for say 110%-120%).
The problem with orders, and L items are:
First, I think orders should not be anonymous, the same way offers aren't. Maybe this will discourageg things like placing an order for 10 *unlimited* blueprints of the same kind.
Secondly, the % in auction should tell the markup of the usable parts. This would be useful for below-average TT of looted weapons, for instance.
I often "dump" things like animal oils on auction as cheap as I can. Why? Simply, to make it easier for crafters. The option for me would, practically, be to TT it (which I also do). Another option for me is to use up the oils myself and sell the outcome.
Some time ago I know a crafter who announced for animal oils, but pretty soon I got the impression that most crafters get all the oils they need by their own hunting or from socmates (probably at higher level).
As for shops being an alternative to buyouts; well for a seller, shops are no alternative (unless you have 30k ped to spare), as currently there are no shops availible (though, the shops probably have an owner - but the shop is deserted - no maintenance fee paid - or the shop/maketplace deed is held by a reseller/trader who doesn't actively use the shopmarketplace himself).
Neither are shopkeepers.
For a buyer, for me it's a pain to look in malls because of the "lag" (caused by memory demands), and also the numbers of sellers are limited. Let's say you're looking for a specific (L) part of a dropped armor - how would you do it with the current shop system? Given, it may be looted by "any" random (probaly higher level) player and that there are at least 20 socs among the 20 top socs.
