The second round of the 2008 Land Grab was a spectacular event for spectators and competitors alike. The fighting was fierce and the battle for the final two land areas went well past the first eight areas. Only when the last bullet case fell and the last rocket exploded did the white dots finally start to subside.
Remebering the ME in storage helped start the day, as the land areas in question scrolled across the screen. A quick look at the map and off I went to LA 10, better known as Myrene Island.
A Calm Start
The landing was quite smooth, as the event was still 15 minutes away. The large majority consisted of Chaos Crew, with a
MA assistant checking out everything to make sure everything was ready to go. With only a few minutes left until show time, CC corralled supporters and spectators to the fertilizer shead. When the claim went green a few seconds later, the battle was on!
Resistance was minimal for the beginning part, and humorous at times when a person was coming as a friendly but was still taken out at first sight. As nothing was happening at the time I took the TP to Palm Springs to investigate more fighting.
Dead & Alive

Teleported a bit west of the Claim marker, was met by three patrols of the Dark Knights but not fired upon...awesome. So I quickly dashed to the fertilizer terminal in hopes of being spared. Not so much, as a DK was quicker with the trigger finger than asking questions first. However it was amazing how many there could read my eternal soul language, so I chatted with the folks for a bit and seemed like a nice bunch. So I came back after hitting the Revival Terminal and lasted a bit longer before being hit with a rocket. One of my
EU idols, Deathifier, used his Resurrection chip to bring me back to life. How cool is that! Said I was only the second player he's been able to bring back. However the 300 seconds were more than enough time for the chip to work. There wasn't much activity as the patrols were dispatching any pockets of resistance, so it was me and Dark Knights, having a cup of tea.
A Cold Reception

As much as I enjoyed my time at LA 15, I knew I should move on. LA 11, the area above Myrene Island, was a quick jog from the TP, so it was easy to find. Other than that, attempts to get close was futile as Menace to Society members were scattered and was shot before saying a quick 'hello'. However I ran into another old friend, Razorfire, so he sat next to my lifeless heap and chatted for a min or two. He was assisting in the defense of the claim along with some other players, which I figured as some players donned in some nice looking armor parts and weaponry.
Again, thankfully the RT next to the island's TP was still active so it was a quick exit when I wanted to leave.
LA 9's Last Stand
LA 9 was definitely where the party was, as I entered Amerthera Demons had just finished capturing the area from another society. Slick was in the area, so I hooked up with him and bought out the fap for a bit. Who says a reporter can't tag along for some fun?
It was only quiet for a minute or two, when a player would say in chat 'Incoming from SW', then the group around the claim would shift efforts to that area. However an unexpected ambush caught Slick and Co. off guard and I received a rocket to the head. During the death timer the vast majority of the radar was covered in white dots and the sound of blp/rocket blast were to be heard everywhere in the area. Now if that doesn't get you pumped about the Land Grab, you haven't seen it for yourself. While it was entertaining to watch the sights and sounds, four hours passed from the start and most of the areas were already done with being claimed. The TP chip ammo was also depleted so I called it a day.
Congratulations to all the winners, may they enjoy their land for the six months!
