I posted the 'Higher Skills ~ Higher Stakes' and am now reading this. Now that I have read this post, I would agree with your plan for much the same reasoning I stated in mine. That is....

You hit the max level you are comfortable playing at some time ago, so you are no longer gaining skills at an SIB rate and there is not much benefit to your skills above the level where your weapons and other gear is maxed out.

So just based on my own logic, I would say sell off some of your skills.... not back to 0 by any means, but to a point where you are back in SIB territory while still being able to use your gear effectively, then when you max out, sell again.... Effectively your skills become part of your loot!
