The criteria were changed based directly on member feedback in the EntropiaForum Senior Members - Feedback thread. Here is the original version of the opening post (relevant parts bolded for convenience):

Most of the feedback focused on Longevity, which is why is was increased from 1 year to 2 years (and why you did not qualify for the first group of Senior Member promotions):
