I think a waypoint marker would be useful, such that when trying to travel to a specific location it would at least give an idea of what direction to head. Being able to set a teammate as a waypoint would be useful as well.
Making them set per session and not visible to others (if they are set by entering coordinates then one person could tell teammates what coordinates to use) would put the processing on client side so as to not cause lag to others.
It would even be reasonable to put this functionality in a device, possibly with decay over time (batteries), using an onscreen display similar to the ore/enmatter finders.
