I'd hope that a mailing list system would be better than the in-game ads and would serve a different prupose. I want to be able to send something to people that I know are interested in receiving it - i.e. targeted advertising, not the broad brush approach that the ad screens provide. For a real-world comparison, one is like billboard advertising and the other is more like direct mail.

People would be free to unsubscribe at any time, and it would all be a self-contained system, so I can't see where any abuse could come in. The closest you could get is if you signed up to someone's list and they started sending 20 annoying messages a day advertising sweat for sale at 0.4 or something, in which case you can just go to the terminal and leave the list.

If we need more 'security' than that, perhaps there could be an abuse-reporting system or built-in restrictions such as, for example, only one message can be sent per day.
