'Maxed' is really just a term we invented ourselves I think, so it doesn't necessarily make sense

I might do a test sometime and see if it produces any effect on skilling rate. When I used to hunt with amped opalo I used to used scopes & sights because I thought it gave extra skill gain. Can't remember how exactly I came to that conclusion though.

Most of the research recently has been on whether or not it affects hit rate. That's quite tricky to do as outside factors can affect results and a lot of testing is required. Witte and others did quite a bit of testing a while back using a macro Witte made to log the hits and misses. Can't remember their conclusions tbh, I'll dig up the thread later. I don't think anyone has systematically looked at (and published results) whether or not skill gains are affected, but it should be fairly straightforward to test and rule out/confirm any significant skill gain effects.
