And yes in a "skillbased game" it does seem kinda pointless to even have the skill when it would take incredible amounts of time and work even to get it past lvl10 :p.
That being said the mentoring system needs major changes before it makes "sense" imo. The ridiculously low gains in skills from helping someone for months is only a minor issue...

it used to be 20-30 pts per graduater and it changed in VU 7.4
i know that, because i sent a support case about a low gain in mentoring and got an answer like:
"in VU 7.4 the skill system was changed. you will not receive a skill gain each time a disciple graduates, but if one does, the gain will be higher"
well, nowadays you get pretty exactly 0.5 pts per graduater (i had 50 graduaters and have 24 pts; see post later)
so
MA basically thinks that 0.5>20-30

open action book,--> system,--> mentor and disciples button (if i am not mistaken)
2. mentor skill cannot be chipped (as sweat gathering)
even if, i doubt most who started mentoring recently would have enough

i made it when i reached 50 graduaters and it shows my skill and profession level in mentoring as well as the majority of gifts i got
