you must be one of the group that insists that tv commercials aren't actually louder than the tv shows, and then follows this statement up w/a bunch of technical reasons why, all the while completely forgetting that no matter how technically right they are, the commercials ARE louder

the audio track in TV commercials is compressed so much to allow the rest of the track be increased in volume without clipping, hopefully to attract the attention of the movie viewer making their cup of tea. It's pretty bad for your ear drums, and causes hearing fatigue a lot quicker.
