What aspect of the looting avatar affects the loot? Is it pro-standing, avatar height as a ratio of mob hp or the avatars incept date? We don't know.
Then "other factors" - well, that's about as broad and as vague as they come. Anything could be used as an "other factor", regardless of how bizarre or absurd, as long as it doesn't open the casino can of worms.

So it's perhaps not completely random, but my current experience (I hunt a mob that globals every minute in chat and I get nothing worth writing home about) tells me exactly this. :-) I can't affect this in any reasonable way, hence
PE is gambling for me.
