Also, it sounds like there was no need for a new Gold Card at all, just a replacement reader. You seemed to make a mistake in your support case by saying your Gold Card was broken, when actually it was just a problem with the card reader (battery probably getting weak).
If I recall correctly, Gold Card holders are entitled to one new reader per year, for free.
