I have been playing about 6 months and do mostly hunting. Tried to do a little minning but it got boring quick as I hardly ever got anything. I try to do about 400-500 ped hunting every day depending on the loot I get. If it is slow I do less and it is good I do more. Yesterday hunting was slow for me so I decided to go do a little minning, as a lark. I had about 25 points in total for all my mining skills. I bought 40 probs for e-matter. I dropped 20 at one place and got mostly oil but the return was about 6 or 7 ped, not bad for a noob. Moved to a new location and 2 probs later I got 128ped global (I think I had 11 skill points in e-matter mining). It gets better. I was telling my buddy about the gbl (he likes to mine but hasn't got squat lately and he has quite a few more skill points than I had but never got a gbl) and he got hot for mining so we went where I got the gbl and I bought 20 bombs and 20 probs. He was having a little success but not a lot. On my second bomb I hit a 114 gbl on gauzzerdite(something like that), which was the second one that day. Now I have about 300 skill points in mining. It just doesn't make any sense to me how that works execpt it has to be completly random. So my point is it doesn't matter skill level or whatever we can all global at anytime. As a side note my first gbl was a 657 ped HOF after about 6 weeks of playing and I didn't get another thing for 2 or 3 months after that.
Just thought I would share so all the noobs like me have hope.
