There does seem to be a bug with dying. I noticed this last week. If you die but keep your loot window open, you might get a couple more bottles, but then they don't show up any longer (though they do show up in your inventory). Avoiding death, unfortunately, seems to be the only way to avoid this.
(I noticed this both at nea's and the sweat camp north of PA)
