Well this is my detailed approch to callibration and my thoughts on it whats best to do..
I dont think fixing things by stretching is a human task

To much damned work. But if you want, I find gimp easy enough to use, just not an as friendly interface as times, otherwise photoshop could be used which I loved but is costly

.
I find that there are 2 coordinates on
MA's maps. One are the TP's although on the amethera version they do seem to be less accurate. The other is the background, the colored map itself. On amethera, you have the LA layer as well.
I know for certain that due to the way
MA positions the background and LA layer, they sometimes are shifted compared to a previous view. You can see this happen in nrf as well. Simple floating point to integer conversions, do the trick
Method:
1. Use the added mining log which contains 4 TP's of eudoria, or all ( considering an older VU ) of Amethera. I use the TP's to calibrate.
2. I set the "show path" option on the map on.
3. I zoom in on a TP, and edit the "mining log" so it displays a radius just as big as the TP on the map. I find it easier to center the actual center this way. And I zoom out again.
4. I stretch the height and width settings of the map, using big values, slowing decreasing the ammount I change it by when getting closer.
5. I remember the most western, southern, etc TP's in the log and remember them. I will zoom in closely on one, and double click the log to jump through them.
6. As I close in you will notice that the path displayed, is wider/higher then the TP's or not. You can see this by how the "drops" are displayed over the TP's. If the one is positioned left and the other right, its not accurate. Keep scaling until the "drops" are all positions at the same angle and direction from their nearest TP.
7. Once thats done, fine tuning can be a few minz, then you just need to adjust the offset a bit.
The more accurate you want it, the more time goes in fine tuning.
I find it pretty accurate when i use the tp coords to callibrate. I use the most northern, southern, western and eastern TP's as an incorrect scale will be most visible due to the big distances between them.
If you do it this way, you will notice that sometimes a TP on a map isnt accurate, even though you callibrated using the farthest distance.
If you mine along the coast you will notice that you are either mining abit inland or in the water. But, when you look in
EU you see this same dispositioning. Only using the last as argument I would say TPs are more accurate if you want a one on one view of where it would be in
EU.
I hope later on I can add downloadable map packs including calibrations. ATM I got enough work organising some projects.
PS.. The update is coming alone nicely.. Don't think i'll release it in two pieces but in one update. I probably have extra time this weekend. Except for some minor bugs, and vista support that im still working on, and the map that i can callibrate if requested, there are no main bonuses. Only minor interface bugs, but many of them, and saving much more settings. I would like to add the improved grids including sorting and several speed improvements before wrapping it up. If any mayor bug or VU change happens, or if it just takes to long, I'll speed it up.
