I'd be very interested in this as a fairly noobish miner.
if you could determine an approximate cost to invest in the experiment it would be easier for volunteers to determine if they can participate or not.
Plus, you are going to need several rules of conduct;
1) Sticking to exact positioning etc. - you will need an easy and workable methodology for this.
2) Logging results in some structure fashion, maybe a website of some description?
3) Resource Level at which a participant is allowed to 'break away' from the experiment to receive their find i.e. if a participant happens to come accross a 'huge' or 'enormous' deposit they wuold be unlikely to not mark it and offer another participant to try to find it to detect the range!
Also the effect on the results of such 'breakaways' - depleting the field etc.
