That was my first thoughts, too.
There are other places in our solar systen with greater chance to find some live (algea, bacteria or any other low forms of live).
But who cares about that, we have enough live on planet earth and its time to export some of it to other planets.
First step should be a base on Moon
Second step Mars, this hole is a nice place to build first habbitats many other places will be as good as this.
Then go on! The moons of Jupiter and Saturn are very interesting planets and some of it a lot bigger than Mars.
When I was a little child I dreamed of a base on other planets, but nothing happend the last 30 years
