it gives LOADS of strange info...like planets and what they are...mindforce...robots.... oh, and ill try copying in this thread.... Mindforce History Scientists have been exploring the mental and physical depths of the human mind for ages and soon discovered ways to stimulate the still inactive parts of the brain. Further experiments finally revealed hidden lairs of powerful latent mental abilities within the human mind. Rare paranormal abilities such as Extra Sensory Perception, telekinesis and telepathy had only been the beginning. By adding external energy to boost these powers new ones emerged with a force unlike anything ever experienced by any human. This new mental power was given the name Mindforce - the force of the mind. The discovery soon became official to the public with the vision that every human would be able to activate and make use of his or her latent mental powers. It wasn't until later when the new mind enhancement technology became available to the open market that practical devices could be constructed. These devices could enhance and fuel the Mindforce with the energy it needed to truly manifest itself by the use of will and skill. More powerful prototypes were tested in various hostile conditions on Calypso with good results, which gave the citizens legal access to higher degrees of Mindforce enhancements. Mindforce is now said to be the ultimate tool of the future and is considered by many as the next step in human evolution. Mindforce & Aspects Mindforces are latent mental abilities hidden within the mind of every human being. To be able to invoke and control these dormant powers a small cybernetic Mindforce implant is integrated with the brain to create a rapid artificial evolution of the mind. Today this device is considered basic standard equipment on Calypso, making the use of Mindforce easy and available to all human settlers. The amazing powers of the Mindforce are grouped in several different Aspects. These Aspects already exist inside the human mind but in order to invoke them it requires knowledge, training and experience. All these Aspects are also divided into different Levels, depending on the force and control requirements of each Aspect. Access to these Aspect Levels will in turn require a certain degree of knowledge and also an upgrade of the Mindforce implant, all in order for the individual to safely control these increasingly more powerful Aspects. The use of Aspects will consume energy from the Mindforce implant and cause mental stress and fatigue on the human psyche. Consequently the use of more powerful Aspects will consume more energy and cause a higher mental fatigue. Science proclaims that the number of Aspects is only limited to your own imagination. The robot threat on Calypso presents an extreme situation and ideal grounds for rapid Mindforce development, just as any other tool or weapon needs to be properly field tested to reveal its full potential. As humans continue to develop the use of Mindforce on Calypso, new latent Aspects of the mind will surely be discovered. It's only a matter of time and devotion... "To create something with your hands is a great achievement, but to create something with your very thoughts, that is a divine experience." - Iziru Takamoto, Mindforce Master Here you will find a shitload of info about the known animals on Calypso, there will constantly be animals added to the game and as you go into the unkown regions of Calypso you may find unregisterd animals… Allophyl Class: Unclassified The Allophyl, also known as the "Fisherman", is one of the strangest native animals on Calypso. It's extremely tall, but despite this size, its body is very light, allowing its long and slender legs to support its own weight. The Allophyl is a marine animal and lives near the waterside were it primarily feeds on fish and other water animals. Its hunting technique varies from searching the sea bottom to catching free-swimming prey in the water, but its method remains the same. It uses sensitive electrodes on its tentacles to locate the prey, which it then stuns it with an electric charge released into the water between its two slender tentacle arms. The flying Igni insects are sometimes seen hovering around these majestic animals, hoping to extract some of the residue energy from the electric charges that are released while the Allophyl is hunting. Armax Bull Class: Xenosaur This is a large male xenosaur equipped with an impressive armament of horns, thick plate armor and a club on the end of its tail. Its full scientific name is Armaxenosaur and it's an herbivore that feeds on any type of vegetation, even in barren landscapes were it uses its tusks to dig for water or roots. The bull walks alone or as the sole leader of a small group of Armax cows. Alone it's quite peaceful but when it's with a herd it will defend its cows at all cost and become very aggressive. Armax Cow Class: Xenosaur This is a large female xenosaur. Its armament might not be as impressive and effective as that of the Armax bull, but it's still very capable of defending itself. The full scientific name of this herbivore is Armaxenosaur. It feeds on any type of vegetation, even in barren landscapes were it uses its tusks to dig for water or roots. The Armax cow rarely ever walks alone and is most often found in small groups with other cows lead by a large bull. Its natural enemies are carnivorous xenosaurs. Atrax Dino Class: Xenosaur Also known by its more correct scientific name Atraxenosaurus, the teeth and double set of jaws on these vicious xenosaurian carnivores are made for killing and tearing flesh apart. With such a massive bulk they are capable of stalking and striking down prey much larger than themselves. Thankfully, these powerful predators rarely hunt in packs, at least not the grown adults who usually hunt alone or in pairs. Younger and less experienced siblings are known to hunt in small family groups for a period before reaching a mature age. Equipped with sharp night vision, they usually hunt under the cover of night, which is why they're also known by a more sinister nickname - the Dark Dinos. Oculus Class: Unclassified This alien looking creature has five tentacle legs and a round body with only one distinct eye. It's capable of using mental powers and has a strong defense against the human Mindforce. The Oculus maintains itself in an upright position with special glands filled with methane gas. One of these glands can be seen like a red bulge on its swollen head, which serves as a pressure vent. The glands allow the Oculus to hover like a balloon, using its sucker-equipped legs to cling on to the ground for faster movement. Without a good foothold it will float away, which it also utilizes to glide through the air. The gas glands also work as a natural deterrent against predators who find the stench repulsive. Any weapon that might ignite the gas will in most cases cause an explosion if the Oculus is severely injured. It's uncertain what the Oculus feeds upon to sustain itself, but it's clear that it likes decaying matter. This has given it several nicknames, like the "Rot Pod" or the "Harvester of Decay". Methane gas from decomposing material is most probably its main source of nourishment, which it can extract using its tentacles. Sabakuma Sandworm Class: Xenoinsectopod The Sabakuma, also known as the "desert demon", is a crawling sandworm with big vicious fangs. It seems to inhabit all known deserts on the planet where it hides from other predators or digs itself down to lurk beneath the ground. Its hunting methods vary but usually it patiently awaits its prey to pass over it on the surface before it strikes. This animal is also quite fast and agile and will resurface to give chase to a promising prey. Its thick scaly body provides it with good protection but it's no good against the powerful beak of its natural enemy, a creature known as the Longu. Snablesnot, Male Class: Unclassified This is a bipedal creature with characteristically long and muscular trunks extending from its round body. The Snablesnot is referred to as a relatively harmless predator that feeds on insects. It uses its trunks for many things: to keep its balance, as grip organs, mouths and for hunting its main prey. It attracts large flying insects with its own body stench, and then shoots them down with a load of sticky and corrosive yellow slime from its trunks, thereby immobilizing them and turning them into easy pre-digested pickings on the ground. The rest of its body has evolved very differently in comparison to the much larger female Snablesnot, but they still share their characteristic set of limbs. Snablesnot, Female Class: Unclassified The female Snablesnot is a large and bulky quadruped. It has two long and massive trunks, used as grip organs but which also function as two mouths, adding even more to its overall length. The rest of its body has evolved very differently in comparison to the much smaller bipedal male Snablesnot. The female Snablesnot is referred to as a relatively harmless predator that feeds on low vegetation. Leafs and weeds are torn off and sucked up into the trunk were they are dissolved by a lair of corrosive slime before reaching the belly. It's able to shoot sticky green slime as well as concentrated clumps of acid from its trunks, but it primarily uses these methods to defend itself from attacking predators. Igni Class: Xenoinsectopod This bug belongs to a special breed of strange alien insects called the Igni. They all share the same unique metabolism, which allows them to feed on energy and store it in their bodies. This makes them very energetic to say the least, and they need to be. Their lack of legs indicates that they remaining in flight all their life after they hatch. What's even more fascinating is these insects ability to emit energy for defensive or offensive purposes. All Igni insects are attracted to various natural and artificial energy sources, which they feed upon. This niche in nature gives them a very good natural resistance against any type of energy that could otherwise be harmful. There are several different kinds of Igni insects, each one with it's own distinct form of energy emission. It's easy to tell them apart by their color and size. The Red Igni for instance can generate a burning heat ray of concentrated energy, similar to a laser blast. Pupugi Class: Xenoinsectopod This is a large flying green insect. It belongs to an aggressive breed of different xenoinsectopods that have long scorpion-shaped rear bodies, ending in a big poisonous sting. The sting is very sharp and the lash it can make with its rear body is powerful enough to cut through thick hides. Smaller preys are killed by lash cuts rather than by the poison, while larger prey risk falling victim to a much slower death. The female Pupugi insects kill larger animals with poison in order to lay eggs in its carcass. The female then ferociously guards this nesting ground against any scavenger who might try to feed on the dead animal. Most predators can sense these nesting carcasses and will usually turn away and find their food elsewhere. There are several different kinds of Pupugi insects, each one with it's own niche and habitat. It's easy to tell them apart by their size and color. The Green Pupugi is the most common breed and lives in various forms of green vegetation. Daikiba Class: Xenomammalien Habitat:Forests The Daikiba is a very large and massive animal. Its appearance is distinctive: a large head with two huge saber tusks. Despite its fearsome appearance, it's an herbivore and mainly uses its large tusks to dig up roots or peel bark from trees in order to feed on their soft centers. The tusks are also used as weapons when fighting predators. Its thick leathery hide offers the animal good protection, especially from it's own kind during the tough mating seasons. Both males and females use their tusks for fighting off rivals, fending for themselves and defending their mates and young. The Daikiba form pairs and family groups, but can also live in scattered herds to benefit from the increased awareness and protection provided by their numbers. As a result, the Daikiba have relatively few natural enemies to worry about. Tripudion Class: Xenosaur Sometimes referred to by its nickname "skipper", this is a large and fast moving quadruped predator. Its supple limbs allow for amazing agility and movement. It normally settles for smaller and quicker prey like flying insects, which its most fit to hunt. Despite this, it's still an aggressive animal. This is the Argonaut, one of the strongest and most dangerous creatures.No-one knows where they come from, but there are rumours that they come from hell and followed the first pioneers to Calypso. This is the Neco Insect, one of the many big ass insects you'll find on Calypso. They usualy hunt in packs and should be considerd extremly dangerous... Lady's and Gentlemen...meet the Hiryuu! This giant flying reptile is also called "the flying dragon". Its very strong and when pissed off he will attack evrything that moves Funny looking creature, looks like on of those carnalval-horses you find on Earth. Don't let his looks fool you, it can do some big damage... Weird creature, it has large hands and is very flexible. An adult Foul can have the abbility to attack from large range with MindForces much like the ones we use. The Katang...Looks allot like a wild pig on Earth, it's flesh is very tastefull but in packs they can proof to be dangerous... The Molisk...usualy friendly creatures unless you piss them off, there claws are designed for hacking in rock so they might as wel hack in armor... The Gazonk, also called "Target Practice"...They have almost no defence and arn't very fast. They form the basic food of predetors and of cours of the humans. Luckely the poor things bread like rabits. The Atrax Dino is a very dangerous and strong creature, some say adult Atrax Dinos have strenght that even scares the Argonaut... This type of compression gives it a higher energy value and less weight than the original food product. A Food Pack is also more durable and won't deteriorate at the same rate as raw or cooked food when it's stashed and carried. There are several kinds of Food Packs containing different types of products, such as meat, fish, dairies, corn and greens. The different types of Food Pack content are easily identified by a distinguishing color code on each package. The Food Pack can be consumed without any preparation, or used in a Food Converter to create more nutritious meals. Energy Cells These items are used to power various devices such as weapons, tools and personal energy shields. Each category of devices requires its own type of energy cell. Energy cells can contain different amounts of energy depending on their capacity. Every energy cell is added to a total energy source when carried or stored. All energy-powered equipment that is activated will automatically draw energy from this source, provided it belongs to the right category of devices. Materials These include metal ores, textiles and any other types of material that may be found and extracted from the environment. Material is used to create devices and items such as tools or clothes. Chemicals A variety of chemical substances, used in conjunction with a chemistry set to create different chemical injection fluids called drugs Robots Introduction The invading robots represent the main threat to the humans on Calypso. These robots come from two planets called Akbal and Cimi, located in another nearby star system. These desolate robot outposts were originally large automated mines and refineries before they rapidly evolved into robot war factories. It remains unknown why these distant robot outposts suddenly saw the human race as their enemy, but evidently they suffered the same infection that caused the Robot Revolt on Calypso. The robots from Akbal-Cimi have somehow gained access to a superior technology that allows them to achieve interstellar travel through teleportation. This knowledge is used to transport robot invaders across space, and land them almost directly on the planet surface of Calypso. These menacing machines will never stop in their fanatical quest to defeat the humans and conquer the planet. Citizens who choose to fight the robot invaders must be prepared for a long and hard struggle, because this is only the beginning… "It was foreseen by our ancestors a long time ago, that robots would one day turn against their creators, but it is still not yet decided who will stand victorious. Ximon Galax, Planetary Commander of Calypso Attackers The attackers are the main land-based robot assault units. They are distinguished war-machines without humanoid appearance and are equipped with a death-bringing arsenal of weapons. Their mobility varies, but they are usually designed to be very swift and mobile. This allows them to cover long distances and strike against any given target. They are comparable to tanks, which make them one of the most dangerous robots to encounter on the field Bunkers These are stationary robots that function like heavily armored sentry guns with a rotating turret. They are usually built by a Constructor and used for perimeter defense near a base. Their weapon systems may vary, ranging from energy weapons to solid missiles. In general, the bunkers are effectively protected by shields or armor, which can make them difficult targets to destroy despite their immobility. Constructors The Constructors are important components of the robot invasion force. In order for a Robot Matrix to upgrade and expand its robot base, these robots are necessary for creating new structures, extracting resources and establishing new facilities like mines. They are not designed for combat but are capable of using their diverse tools to defend themselves when necessary. « Workers These are a class of very simply designed humanoid robots. Similar models were originally used during the colonization of Calypso as human replicas to help maintain the colony citadels before the first human arrivals. These robots went on a rampage during the Robot Revolt and after the war; many of these old Workers are still believed to lie inactive and hidden inside ruins and secret stockpiles. The invading robots now produce a new generation of Workers, some specializing in maintenance duties while other variants are equipped for combat. Destructors » These robots are usually constructed as disposable units and are not designed to be retrievable. They are designed as smart traps or automatic seek-and-destroy devices. They are dropped or planted in an environment where they can wait for the right target to come within range. When the units are triggered they are usually destroyed themselves in the attack. If a self-destruct mechanism doesn't destroy the Destructor the enemy most likely will after a failed attempt has revealed it. Transporters These robots transport various forms of cargo, usually materials and resources, to the base, or carry and plant various robot devices. They are equipped with large Atomic Compression Modules and short-range teleportation systems to dematerialize or rematerialize the cargo they carry. Transporters are also used for recovering wreckage or scavenging items for recycling. Transporters are not designed for combat, making them quite vulnerable to attack. Therefore, other types of robots are often assigned to a Transporter as escorts, giving it protection on away missions. Scouts These are small, fast and agile units equipped with advanced sensor systems. They are used as scouts and move ahead of other units to scan the nearby area for possible threats, enemy targets or new resources. They can also be used to guard the flanks of larger groups of robots. Scouts are often poorly armed and badly protected but their small design, speed and maneuverability makes them hard targets to hit. They are still considered dangerous however because of their assigned surveillance capabilities. Upon detecting a threat a scout will alert the base or nearby combat units to neutralize the danger. Defenders These robots are designed as sentinels. Their main tasks are to guard and defend their robot base and to escort and protect more vulnerable robot units, such as the Constructor. Defender models range from small, fast and agile units that can quickly intercept an approaching threat to large and slow models that are powerful enough to neutralize a threat before it can cause any damage. Skyfighters These robots are constantly airborne and are capable of flight at high speed and altitude. They range from high altitude interceptors to low altitude gun ships. The high-flying Skyfighters can operate at altitudes close to the edge of space if necessary and only attack flying targets, such as skyships, shuttles and similar vessels. Low-flying Skyfighters, however, are specialized in striking at ground targets such as humans, although these robots will attack flying enemy vessels as well if such targets come into range. Warriors These robots are dreadful war machines and are by all right considered extremely dangerous. They are specially designed to spread terror and destruction wherever they go, killing anything human that may stand in their way. Warriors can operate very well alone but are also known to work in pairs. In a group of robots they most often function as main combat units, always standing on the front line of the assault. Troopers These are pure combat robots, although still humanoid in appearance. They have a heavy reinforced body and are equipped with built-in energy weapon systems, which prevent the weapons from being scavenged and used against their own forces. Troopers have very good armor and powerful shields, making them into very tough opponents. The weaponry varies between different models, from single standard energy firearms and energy blades to dual firearms and heavy energy weapons. Mutants The mutants belong to a genetically degenerated breed of neo-native humanoids. Several generations of mutants have passed rapidly on Calypso, resulting in a continued variety of different mutations amongst their kind. Their appearance can vary from strange and ugly to sickening or horrifying. Some are so extremely mutated physically, that they no longer look like humanoids, while others have suffered mental mutations, allowing them to employ mental powers similar to the human Mindforce. Permanent genetic alterations have also created several distinctive breeds of mutants. The mutants are descendants of the first settlers on Calypso, but are no longer classified as human beings. They are outcasts, a tragic reminder of the past and of the robot revolt. Exiled from human society, they weren't expected to survive for long - but they did. The mutants now roam the wild outskirts and ruins of vanquished old cities in growing numbers. Despite their mutations, or perhaps because of them, the mutants have managed to survive on their own and thrive to such a level that they could now pose a threat to the future human colonization of the entire planet. Despite their human degeneration, many mutants are very intelligent, and they still possess enough knowledge to remain well aware of the main events in their past. Mutants are as multifaceted as any human, and some can be both friendly and trustworthy enough to trade with, while other mutants hate humans enough to try and kill them on sight. Despite these different alignments all mutants see the robots as their common hated enemy, and this legacy might turn a mutant into a human ally in the fight against the robots. "It's sad that our closest relatives on this world are our most distant cousins" - Anonymous The Mutants were once humans, they were amung the first pioneers that went to Calypso. After the robots used Nuclear devices in the Robot-Revolt they didn't die but were geneticly alterd. We asumed they died after a while but somehow they managed to survive, now they form one of the bigest threaths to humans on Calypso. Humans and Mutants have 2 things incommend: they both can use guns...and they both hate the robots. Them hating the robots will maybe one day mean they will fight bye our side in the final battle. But be adviced, not all Mutants are unfriendly. Tools Introduction In the future, humans rely very heavily on advanced field equipment to make their lives easier. Indeed, sturdy tools that can assist in various functions are vital to survival in the alien wilderness on Calypso. Settlers must be self-sufficient in their struggle to reclaim the planet, which makes the use of tools a vital part of life. Tools are required in order to use certain skills successfully. Many others do not require them, but using the appropriate tool does improve the chance of actions being successful. As a result, having the right tool and the right skill is always an advantage. There will be various classes of tools available and each type will also include a wide range of models with different functional standards and capabilities. New tools and models are always under development to provide the market on Calypso with an endless variety of optional hardware, which will create a growing multitude of tools from which to choose. Meat Extractors [General Information] These practical devices are used to extract pieces of meat from dead animals. They are primarily used as complementary tools for hunting and survival in the wild. All Meat Extractors are equipped with a safety function, which guarantees that the tool can't be used as a weapon. MXL- 440 The MXL-440 is a standard field model using conventional laser technology to cut up and extract the meat before using an auto link to transfer the meat into the inventory. It leaves a minimum of waste, but the appropriate skill is required in order to operate it effectively. Like all Meat Extractors, the MXL-440 cannot be used as a weapon due to its built-in safety function. Harvesters [General Information] These devices are used to extract various forms of edible plants and crops from the earth. To avoid any risk of poisoning, all harvesters are pre-programmed with the current lists of plants that are fit for human consumption. The device will automatically reject any untested or unfit flora if the user targets any such plants for harvesting. Harvested products are automatically cleansed, processed and transferred to the inventory for easy storage and access. H-50 Farmhand Alpha This is a standard model using a close-range teleportation system to harvest various forms of edible plants for personal use. It was primarily developed as a device for basic survival in the wild as well as an alternative to hunting. Food Converters [General Information] These are portable cooking devices that can prepare raw food in various ways, depending on the model. Its functions can range from just making raw food edible, converting food into more durable Food Packs or turning Food Packs into a variety of increasingly more nutritious meals. FC-100 Food-Mate This is one of the most basic field kitchen models. It's able to turn any type of raw food into cooked food, but it can't handle Food Packs. From this perspective it's more practical for experienced travelers who are used to gathering their own food in the wild as they go. LS Medical Instrument Beta 1-X-1 Combat surgeons used this model on android soldiers during the robot war on Calypso. It was used for "beta treatment", meaning quick on-site surgery instead of "alpha treatment" which was the code for secure hospital treatment. The modern remake is lighter than the original version and operates without the need for an old portable ACM. Mineral Excavators [General Information] These devices are used to extract ore from the hard depth of solid mountain rock. Mineral Excavators are similar to basic mineral detectors, but much more powerful. They are equipped with a special teleportation system that is able to isolate the materials and then automatically transfer the ore into the inventory. FP-500 Gold-Digger The Frontier Prospector series is the first in a new line of high-performance models. The depth capacity is increased, which makes it able to extract more ore if the user is skillful enough to use the device to its full advantage. Mineral Detectors [General Information] These small devices are able to detect various forms of mineral deposits under the ground surface. When an ore has been detected the device is able to lock onto it and teleport the mineral into the inventory. The Mineral Detectors are practical and easy to use but they have some limitations. They cannot reach down to larger mineral deposits deep inside mountainous solid rock and some ores are simply beyond its range. Excavation of this kind requires a more powerful and heavier device called a Mineral Excavator. MD-027 Earth Worm This handy piece of advanced electronics is considered the standard model of its kind. It has a good average performance with a few more practical functions than earlier models. It will first identify the ore that it has detected before it's transferred to the inventory. This gives the user the choice of rejecting or accepting its findings. The device still uses the same teleportation system from the inventory PAC unit to extract the ore from the ground but this function is highly optimized by the MD-027 Earth Worm for maximum range and performance. Mineral Refiners - General Information These devices are used to refine previously extracted minerals into pure bars that can be used for various construction purposes. Mineral Refiners use teleportation technology to separate waste materials from the desired mineral before its compressed into its pure form. The advantage of using a Mineral Refiner to transform the extracted ore into pure compressed mineral bars is that they weigh less than the unrefined ore, which makes them easier to carry. MR-12 Meta-Maxx This device is a standard mineral refiner with good performance. This model is a bit heavy to be a portable field unit because it has more sturdy electronic components in its refinement system. It produces no residue material because the waste material is automatically vaporized and removed. Com-Pads [General Information] Com-Pad systems differ from the standard computer implant, the NECI, by being essentially more powerful and considerably larger. This has led to a handheld computer version rather than the implanted form in order to keep the cost down on advanced nano-electronic components and avoid anatomical and neural integration problems. The device uses a direct remote uplink to the NECI implant, providing the user with enhanced functions such as deciphering and encryption capabilities. It is primarily used to unlock information from data units, hack into computer systems and download information. PCE-50 Field Mate PCE stands for Portable Computer Enhancement and are the most common series of Com-Pad models on Calypso. They are originally constructed as rugged field models for extensive use in any type of environment and were never designed as fashionable urban items. DS/ARES-103 Panzer Probe This model belongs to a series of standard defense scanners originally meant for military forces. ARES stands for Armor Rating and Energy Shield, which is what this device scans. After a successful scan the device will display an average of the current defensive value of the target. It makes up for its inability to display each type of defense separately by processing the data much quicker than other more advanced models that are equipped with detailed display functions. LF-50 Multi-Scout This standard all-around purpose field model has an average scanning range but can detect and track any type of known life forms, be it human, artificial, organic species or mutated creatures. The user only needs to specify the desired type of target and the device will scan the area for it. The LF-50 Multi-Scout is the ideal tool for any watchful traveler who wants to know what's moving around. Defense Scanners - General Information These scanning devices are able to read the defensive values of a target, such as current armor rating and shield status. It's meant to provide the user with vital information about the defensive strength of a potential enemy target before engaging it in combat. These sensitive devices can also scan natural organic armor such as thick hides, bone plating or exoskeletons. Unnecessary confrontations and resurrections can be avoided if this practical gadget is used in the right situations, making it an invaluable tool for smart survival inside any area with unknown hostile activity. Life Form Indicators - General Information This device is used to detect and track various life forms through the environment. This includes humans, robots, mutants, animals and other creatures. The device is quite advanced but the portable technology is relatively new, which presents certain practical limitations. As a result it still requires skill to interpret the data correctly in order to use these devices efficiently. A single scan can present quite an overwhelming amount of data, which is more than a single Com-Pad can handle. In this case, the human must rely more on his or her own experience with the device than on the sole aid of computers. A skillful user will not only be able to tell the direction and range of the target but also its name and even attributes. If used in the right way this device can detect trouble as well as help its user to avoid it. Laser Scalpels - General Information This is a tool used for basic surgical procedures, such as artificial limb replacements and body or brain implants. The device is equipped with several surgical lasers that interact in various ways to perform external and internal surgery on a human body. The Laser Scalpel is automatically linked with the standard microcomputer implant, the NECI, for secure and optimal performance. It's also linked to the inventory, the PAC unit, allowing it to override this security system and use its limited teleportation capabilities to place implants inside a human body. It's a very sensitive tool and requires a great deal of time and skill to master. It's a highly specialized tool and cannot be used to treat or heal injuries. Introduction Most native plants on Calypso are very similar to those on earth because they use photosynthesis, which means that carbohydrates are synthesized from carbon dioxide and water using light as the energy source. This process usually releases oxygen as a byproduct and in this case it helped make Calypso a very well suited world for humans, who need an oxygen atmosphere to breath. However, before the Odysseus Probe landed, the first robots on the surface reported that the climate and atmosphere was slightly different from what it is today, with a lot more plant and animal species. Not all of these life forms survived the slow terraformation of the planet, when the robot machines begun to change the climate and atmosphere to create a new, stable, and more suitable environment for the first human arrivals. Despite this alteration, life recovered very quickly on Calypso, nursing a new breed of plant and animal species, well adapted to the new environment. Indeed, some plants were probably not effected at all by this change. There are still many plants on Calypso, some of which can be very strange and even dangerous, that rely on other food sources to sustain themselves. Even so most of the plants are harmless and can be both as strange as they can be beautiful. When the first settlers did arrive, they were awestruck when the saw this world and named the first sector of the colony 'New Eden'. These first human settlers also brought with them various plants from Earth, which were used to create gardens called 'Eden's of Earth' within the urban communities - the colony citadels. The gardens were meant as resorts and agricultural greenhouses to make the settlers feel more at ease and to help them adapt gradually to their new home and environment on an alien world. However, after the robot war these plants quickly spread outside these previously confined gardens. As a result most plants and trees inside the colonies and around the urban zones consists of a genetically designed flora based on old earth species, species that are more commonly referred to as hybrids. Genetically well adapted to the new environment, these hybrid plants have flourished and pushed aside the natural flora where they grow. However, the inserted plant life has never spread too far out from the human areas and is currently being held at bay by the native plant life, which continues to remain the dominant form of life on the planet. Native vegetation Velumbra » This desert tree has several large sail-shaped leaves. These leaves are extended in the evening and retracted in the morning. During the night the sail-shaped leaves pick up condensed drops of water, which then roll down the branches, to the trunk where they're collected. These sails are retracted during the day when the branches holding them are pulled back into parallel position with the trunk. Arx At first glance this tree looks like several separate trees but is not. The core tree has a very complex root system, which surfaces around the core in a circular formation, creating several high and dense shield-shaped trunks as a means of protection. The core itself is also covered in these shield-shaped trunks and it has most likely developed this to protect its softer and more vulnerable interior from giant herbivores; this is why it's sometimes referred to as the Shield Tree. The Arx can be found in most forests and is used by many smaller animals as a hiding place from predators. In turn these animals provide the tree with plenty of natural fertilization Numaki This tree looks like a fallen tree-trunk standing on several legs that are actually its roots. The tree filters water both ways through its massive trunk, which is kept raised above the ground and preferably across large bodies of water. This tree, which is also known as the bog-tree, can be found in swamps, marshlands and other moist areas that are held in dense mist. Its strange shape allows it to be used as a natural bridge to cross muddy rivers and other treacherous terrain. Cresco Crystals These are not organic plants but are known as trees because of their growth cycle. They are in fact defined as crude mineral life forms. The "roots" of the crystal are made up of rare mineral compounds that react with water and certain other substances causing them to expand up through the surface. After further contact with oxygen and sunlight, long pointed crystal shapes are formed. As the "roots" stop expanding, the crystal tree - which can no longer be sustained - disintegrates, losing its color and transparency. Its remains filter down through the earth with water and seem to provide the basic mineral nutrients that allow new "roots" to grow. This is why they're more commonly called Crystal Trees - because of their noticeable lifecycle. The crystals themselves are very common. Their unstable compositions however cause rapid deterioration when removed, making them worthless as excavation minerals Venor Traba This flesh-eating plant also resembles a fallen tree trunk. Its name means Hunting Trunk but its strange shape has given it the more common nickname "Killer Cucumber". As a plant it's immobile and has to wait patiently for prey to pass its mouth. It captures its prey with a long tentacle tongue and then pulls it into its mouth. The spiky mouth then shuts and the prey is devoured. It has long, spiky and poisonous thorns over its thick armor, which function as powerful deterrents to any larger beasts that could eat or crush it. The plant responds to the scent of an animal in defining its prey so humans and other larger creatures are generally not attacked. « Astralis Arboreus This is a large tree with a top consisting of four very large and bright green leafs. The base of the trunk is very wide and richly colorful on the older trees. The strange shape, color and pure splendor have deemed it one of the most beautiful trees on Calypso causing it to be more commonly referred to as the Star Tree. Migrufolium » This tree has a small circular top of leaves that span out from its top branches, almost like membranes. When the tree has grown big enough the lower part of the trunk becomes swollen. During this period it also develops more and longer thorns in an attempt to protect itself from large herbivores. Fungusilva This tree looks like a giant mushroom and most people simply like to refer to it as the Mushroom Tree. These large trees grow in humid conditions, preferably near swamps and other types of flooded vegetation. It has developed a poison to prevent herbivores from feeding on its soft interior but some native animals have developed immunity to it and are using it to make themselves poisonous, thereby protecting themselves against predators. Hybrid vegetation « Masple This tree is based on species from Earth called the maple and aspen. The tree is of an average size and has a smooth trunk. Its top is uneven and somewhat scattered and it has reddish leafs with pointy edges. It's likely to have a lifespan of about 200 Earth years. Firlock » This tree is based on a species of trees from Earth called fir trees, two old breeds called the spruce and the hemlock. These trees have long rows of needles instead of leafs and the needles are attached directly to the branches. Its top is narrow and cone-shaped with all its branches hanging down from the straight trunk. There are two known types of hybrid fir trees on Calypso, one blue, which has jagged branches and one green with a more smooth appearance. Both types of fir trees are believed to have a life span of nearly 400 Earth years. Belm This tree is based on a species from Earth called the elm and the beech. It's quite a large tree with a smooth trunk and thick upright branches giving it a seemingly flat top. Its lifespan is estimated to reach up to 500 Earth years. Introduction The colony on the planet Calypso consists of an increasing number of settlements that vary in both size and population. They range from dazzling metropolises and prospering industrial cities to more or less fortified outposts in the wilderness. For the time being the government and corporations control all these settlements, but as the population increases, human civilization on Calypso will also expand. In time new settlements will be founded and growing communities will be established all over the world by brave pioneers, and you can be one of them. Capitals The main cities on Calypso are called capitals and consist of very large and newly constructed primary settlements, each one financed and founded by one of the largest main corporations on the planet. These capitals are seen as growing cultural centers and expanding urban communities for the new human civilization on Calypso, a place where peace and prosperity can flourish inside a secure environment. Capitals are very well protected by impenetrable force fields, which only registered citizens are able to pass through. Each capital is a proud symbol to the splendor of human achievement, introducing new forms of entertainment and distributing all the latest merchandize that culture and technology has to offer. Cities These settlements are old human strongholds that were established during the war with the robots. They were once military bases that later grew into cities after the war, and they are now the home of the planet's veteran inhabitants as well as new settlers who choose to seek their fortune here. Like the large capitals these cities are safe havens for all humans who choose to live in these urban environments. Each city is protected by advanced defense systems and contain important industrial facilities that refine resources and provide the colony with merchandize for the domestic market. These cities are therefore able to offer a much larger variety of equipment to its citizens and visitors then any of the minor settlements. Outposts Outposts are small settlements that are tactically positioned in the deep wilderness, far away from any of the larger settlements. The size of these outposts can vary from small trading stations to forts surrounded by walls and defense systems. They function as human strongholds and temporary shelters for travelers and can provide visitors with various services, such as new supplies and equipment. Genesis Star Interstellar "Masters of Progress" Description Genesis Star Interstellar is a relatively young but very ambitious company, remaining alert to any opportunity that may present itself. The corporation relies on a quick wit and raw strength to get what they want, a trait that can sometimes make them seem aggressive and somewhat reckless. For Genesis Star hesitation means loss and any failure is quickly covered up by a success elsewhere. They are considered to be very anti-imperial and like to blame Omegaton Industries for illicit federal support that would cause market unbalance had it not been for their presence on the planet. Unverified rumors claim that the Federal Empire gave Genesis Star access to Calypso because they give quick results, thus encouraging the other corporations to increase their own rate of planetary development. Indeed Genesis Star finished their initial part of the imperial contract before all the other corporations. The Federal Empire saw this as proof of their strength and a clear signal to the other two dominant corporations that Genesis Star Interstellar is a very competitive force to reckon with. Quotes made by Genesis Star about… Chikara OmniWorld - "Silence doesn't mean wisdom, it's just a sign of hidden weakness." Omegaton Industries - "We'll watch you squirm in the imperials claws till you choke, and when they are done with you we'll be there to pick your bones and help scatter your ashes." Genesis Star - "We have risen from the ashes of the past to burn as bright as a guiding star into the future." Chikara OmniWorld Corporation The power to shape worlds" Description Chikara OmniWorld Corporation is a very stringent and powerful organization. It's renowned for its firm stance on solid ground and is proud of its long business tradition. They value the traits of wisdom, discipline and honor, which result in their strength and stability. Their standing and power allows them to be patient and observant, which can sometimes makes them seem rather slow in taking initiatives but when they act, they act with great force in the right place and at the right time. The seniority of the mighty corporation helps to insure a peaceful community on Calypso, even though its presence is strongly opposed by Genesis Star Interstellar. Some refer to it as yet another clever diversion by the Federal Empire to keep political activity within the Genesis Star administration at bay, a rumor Chikara OmniWorld officials have chosen not to comment on. Quotes made by Chikara OmniWorld about… Genesis Star - "A stubborn child needs to be observed by wiser eyes" Omegatech Industries - "Loyalty is only a virtue if it's equally respected by both sides" Chikara OmniWorld - "Power in itself is worth nothing unless you know how to harness and control it." Ntroduc Omegaton Industries "Enlightens your Mind" Description Omegaton Industries is known as a survivor. During the centuries before Calypsos discovery, it struggled hard to gain access to new market resources, driving the corporation dangerously close to the brink of ruin on several occasions. Their risk taking and persistence however, did pay off in the end. Omegaton Industries put the first humans on Calypso, a historical event which has been somewhat overshadowed by the ensuing robot wars, which forced the corporation to sign parts of the company over to the Federal Empire in order to escape financial collapse. This new influence did nonetheless secure their position as a leading interstellar corporation. Even though Omegaton were reluctant to relinquish control to a federal administration, it had little choice, and the corporation is now pledged to follow many imperial directives. Many of the leading individuals in control of Omegaton are trying to cut the cords of association with the Empire. The corporation values loyalty and hard work above all else, a trait that has helped them survive the worst of times and which has also made them a trustworthy ally for the Federal Empire. Backed up by a strong federal economy, the struggle for survival is now based on keeping the new partners satisfied, a fact regarded as a waste of power to some of the more prominent owners of the company. Quotes by Omegaton Industries about… Chikara OmniWorld - "They are strong enough to allow themselves to be observant, and they are wise enough to keep silent about what they see." Genesis Star - "They are kept away by the same shadow that keeps us under its protective shade, like little children afraid of the dark and of what dwells therein." Omegaton Industries - "It may look dark living under the shadow of another, but at least it's safe" Quantum Technology Most hi-tech equipment of the future is based on the use of Quantum Technology, which is considered the key to the universe. This scientific technology has revolutionized the existence of the Human species several times during the past century, providing the human civilization with advanced AI quantum computers, atomic compression, hyperlink communication, teleportation, Jump Rails and Space Gates for interstellar travel. Atomic Compression Interstellar travel is limited to small vessels that are transported through vast energy consuming Space Gates. It was therefore necessary to find a way to pack the cargo load more efficiently, allowing as much goods as possible to pass through the gates. By converting an object into electron fluidium it could be contained and stored inside a small electromagnetic field. This process uses short-range particle teleportation were the atomic structure of the target object is dissolved and transferred, or "atomized and compressed" as it's more commonly called. By scanning and saving the original pattern of the objects atomic structure when it's transferred it could be re-atomized again and returned to normal shape and structure. The technology was first used on industrial raw material with simple atomic structures but successful experiments soon allowed more complex multiple atomic structures to be dissolved and restored. Personal Atomic Compression (PAC) The atomic compression technology is now available on the public market and used for easy transportation and storage of personal items by using a portable device called a Personal Atomic Compression unit or PAC. The desired item can be teleported at close range into the PAC were its atomic pattern is stored in a data buffer while a computer keeps track of the items inside the inventory. The atomic compressor will collapse the atomic structure of the item into freely floating particles, thus reducing its size while the weight itself remains unaltered. A PAC is considered today as basic standard equipment throughout the population. Neuron Enhanced Computer Implant (NECI) This is a cybernetic neuron-controlled nano-computer that is implanted into the skull bone and directly linked to the brain. The NECI functions as a personal computer, communication unit and ID. The NECI allows an individual to log on to modern technological equipment that is equipped with a computer transmitter. The NECI will display status and information on any desired object, such as the personal ACP inventory, weapons or public teleportation systems. The NECI is absolutely vital for memory retrieval and human resurrection. The NECI also includes the popular CHAT-chip, which stands for Cybernetic Hyperlink Augmentation Transmitter. The CHAT allows people to communicate with each other, even across long distances. Resurrection Science has harnessed the creation of life itself by obtaining every genetic code to all known forms of DNA. Combined with new advanced technology it gave Mankind the tools they needed to extend their own lifecycle. Even so, death was still very much present and it compelled human science to invent artificial immortality. By using a micro biochip implant linked to the human brain it can read brainwaves and store memories, including visual images, thoughts, emotions and individual personalities. The data can then be gradually downloaded during life and stored in a databank, allowing the entire mind pattern of a single human individual to be saved for the future and later transferred to a new human body. The new body is an exact copy of the original body in the form of an artificially grown and mindless clone of the original body. By combining a biochip with a microchip computer implant and a hyperlink it allows the whole life of an individual to be constantly connected and downloaded into a databank. Human resurrection or the prolonging of human life is held under strict laws and within specific jurisdictions. Neither one has been available to the general public elsewhere but the desperate situation on Calypso during the first war against the revolting robots gave the colony a special status. As a result the Federal Empire passed a legal motion to make human resurrection available to all settlers on Calypso. The resurrection itself takes place up in orbit, inside the space vessel Exodus where the memory-patterns of all citizens are received and stored inside a large databank. The resurrected individual is then teleported down to a Hospital or a Resurrection Ship on the surface, were the individual can continue his or her broken lifecycle. The reason for this arrangement is to assure a complete authorized control over the resurrection procedures but also because all Resurrection Ships in service are directly linked to the Exodus. Teleportation Technology Teleportation is the most common form of public transportation in the future. This is a vast area including all forms of teleportation, such as Teleporters and Televators. Teleporters are public teleportation units and the main form of transportation inside an urban area. Televators are local teleportation units, equivalent to doorways and elevators inside various buildings and institutions. Teleportation is also used to purchase and distribute merchandise as well as to collect and store items. During the robot wars the settlers constructed armored teleport stations all over the planet to allow human troopers to arrive quickly and safely to any active combat zone and fight back robot hostiles. These teleportation bunkers allowed the humans to strike down hard and swift where it was most needed and use their forces more efficiently against the robots, which outnumbered the humans at that time, both in numbers and resources. Many of these old postwar teleport systems are still functional and can be used freely by any settler who locates them. Space Communication Technology The Interstellar Transportation Network All Space Gates form a network for interstellar travel. Connection points for transits and rerouting vessels contain several Space Gates and are called Gate Stations or Central Gate Stations depending on the number of gates that make up the installation. A single Space Gate located at the end of the network is called an Omega Space Gate and these gates are the final points of destination on the expanding Space Frontier. For economical reasons many Space Gates are maintained by local authorities and are only opened at specific times or in emergency situations. Still, the Space Gate is the most vital element to all forms of interstellar travel within the Federal Empire. The most crucial routes and connection points are therefore well guarded and controlled by the Federal Imperial Forces. Jump Rails These are very long and complex space constructions, powered by several matter/antimatter reactors and conductors. The diameter and length of the construction varies depending on the size of the vessel that is to be launched. Jump Rails function as subspace accelerators, launching a specially equipped vessel into a state of warp that will send it across an enormous distance in space. The vessels travel through several curled layers of time and space until it loses "jump velocity" and reenters normal space again. These curled layers are called warp waves. In order for a vessel to survive the force of a launch and the reentering into normal space it has to generate a warp shield. The force of the launch itself will usually destroy the Jump Rail, which makes it an expensive form of space travel. Jump Rails are not an exact science, which makes them an unreliable form of travel. Time is shifted when the vessel is passing through one warp wave and into another during its journey. The journey appears very short for the travelers as time is being compromised when it may take years to accomplish for an outside observer. Jump Rails remain the only way to transfer large vessels cross the enormous distances of space but their cost make it far more economically attractive to build larger sector-based space vessels on site once a Space Gate has been successfully established. Space Gate Technology Space Gates are artificially made rifts in the fabric of space and time. When two linked gates are activated they will twist and turn the space between them and open a vortex into a warp tunnel, an otherwise rare space phenomena more commonly known as a "worm hole". Travel between the two gates is instant and can take humans light-years across space from one point to another in the blink of an eye. Even though the Space Gates are large and complex constructions the openings they generate are very tight passages. In order for a vessel to slip through safely it has to be fairly small and slim. Interstellar flights are therefore made by smaller spacecraft, roughly the size of shuttles or long rows of connected transportation vessels. A Space Gate also consumes vast amounts of energy when activated and require several large matter/antimatter reactors to function, which can be expensive energy sources. Space Travel A HaRP ZPE extruder is the most common energy source for large spaceships and functions as the main space propulsion system for these same stellar vessels. It works on the principle of extruding energy from a polarized quantum vacuum known as the electromagnetic zero-point field. Antigravity systems are based on the same principle and are used to cancel out zero G in space and generate a suitable environment for any humans' onboard vessels or in bases on low gravity planets. Matter/antimatter reactors are still used to power older installations and old-fashioned fusion technology is still used for smaller vessels. Hyperlink Communication The hyperlink network is based on Quantum Technology and offers secure and instant communication between two separated units. The only things that can slow it down are central connection systems and relay stations where signals from one hyperlink are rerouted and transferred to another. Local Hyperlink Networks connect all the communication systems in a colony while Global Hyperlink Networks connect an entire world and Planetary Hyperlink Networks connect entire solar systems. The Interstellar Hyperlink Network is the largest and most important network since it connects all the colonized areas of space. Space Gates function as main com-stations between colonies but the network also consists of deep space relay stations and bases left behind by Odysseus Probes, most of which are yet to be claimed by the first human that may finally arrive to the location. Clothes Introduction Clothes are an important part of the player character's visual appearance. How you choose to dress your player character will help to develop your appearance. Clothes also serve as an expression of your own individual style and personality. Even armor can be worn in combination with clothes, although there's no need to be dressed for combat action when you could be dressed for social interaction instead. In the end it's all about personal style and taste, and every person has the freedom to choose what they want their player character to wear. That's why there will be a wide assortment of clothing to choose from in the world of Project Entropia. Clothing shops inside the vast urban communities will offer an expanding variety of different clothes to put on player characters. These outfits will vary from a wide range of standard clothing to the introduction of limited collections of fashion wear. Clothes include anything from skirts, pants, and shirts, to jackets, evening dresses, footwear and much more. Single clothing items as well as complete sets will be available. Introduction A long time ago Mankind took the final step into the depths of space. We conquered our own solar system and soon embarked on a new era of interstellar travel. Mankind have now begun to expand their civilization across the galaxy, following a growing web of desolate outposts and industrial supply facilities that have been left behind by robotic space vessels called the Odysseus Probes. The Odysseus Probes was a great enterprise set into motion by a global alliance that would later unite the people of Earth. For nearly a century these Odysseus Probes have explored and expanded Mankind's knowledge of space and its endless new frontiers, continuously discovering new planets and primitive worlds to which humans have later arrived to colonize and conquer. During the dawn of this new era of interstellar travel the Earth had survived the conflicts and transitions to a centralized form of leadership that tied every colonized planet together into the Federal Empire. One of these new colonial planets is called Calypso, a life-giving but remote world in a star system situated far beyond the Colonial Frontier in the deep unknown regions of space. The Odysseus Probe that discovered Calypso built up a vast robot community to prepare it in time for the first human arrivals. One single corporation made the first claim to colonize the world and launched an enterprise called the Exodus Project to bring the first settlers to the New World. When the first humans finally arrived on Calypso they could move in to several pre-constructed cities in a terra-formed region of the world called New Eden. As the settlers moved in the robots would turn over the control to the humans. It was during this gradual human takeover that something went terribly wrong. The robots suddenly turned against the settlers and started a devastating war that would become known as the Robot Revolt. This war nearly wiped out the entire human population on Calypso and laid their new colonies in ruins. After a long time a new generation of settlers finally rid the planet of the hostile robots only to face a new menace as horrid mutated humans began to emerge among the radioactive ruins. Rejected and forgotten, this new threat was quickly set aside by the settlers when they discovered a new robot enemy suddenly appeared from the dark void. The enemy had not been eliminated and was now originating from elsewhere. A desolate robot controlled mining colony in far away star system has been infested with the same corruption as the robots did on Calypso. These new robots are real war machines, and they are now trying to invade Calypso using advanced teleportation technology to land their invading forces directly on the planet. And so, the war against the machine continues. The colonial catastrophe on Calypso forced the corporation in charge to be signed over to the Federal Empire. The benefit of unlocking a free market on Calypso was overshadowed by the bureaucratic behemoth of the Federal Empire. Growing tensions between collaborating colonies that are demanding more independence from the Federal Empire has diverted military resources away from Calypso. The free market provides access to vast technological aid but the settlers are now left to deal with the invading robots on their own. It's a part of an imperial plan called Project Entropia, which is based on the calculated presumption that salvaged enemy robot technology will provide the settlers with the knowledge they need to surpass, strike back and finally defeat the robots once and for all. Despite all the dangers that are threatening the colony on Calypso the settlers are determined to persist and have built up a colonial capital called New Haven. This is the first new striving social community on the planet, built to provide settlers with a secure home environment as they continue to explore and colonize the expanding planetary frontier in the land of Entropia. CHAPTER 1 - THE ERA OF SPACE TRAVEL The Space Age Ages ago, when the first international space stations for scientific research had been constructed in orbit around the planet Earth, it led to an increased knowledge of how humans could adapt and live comfortably in space. When this knowledge was used in the search of practical technological solutions for a life in space, the task was given to any corporation who had the interest in such development in order to ease the financial pressure on the international space projects. As a result space became an open market for all commercial interests. For both scientific and commercial gain, human kind sought to set foot and claim the nearest planets in our own solar system and it led us into the era of interplanetary conquest. The public interest for space and its commercial value pushed space development ahead even further and people of Earth were experiencing a virtual space-craze. Orbital hotels around Earth became very popular resorts. A stationary space station half way to the moon was constructed to allow shuttle traffic to a permanent base on the moon. A larger space station was later constructed in orbit around Mars to prepare the planet for colonization and it didn't take long before both the moon and the planet Mars became the most populated new settlements away from Earth. Space cruising adventures, and hotel resorts on the moon and on Mars were turned into a vacation franchise. These space resorts combined with scientific research and company excavations in search of new resources, and the construction of mines and refineries pushed the development of new space age technology forward. This advanced new space technology would help Man adapt to the new environments and allow him to expand his horizons even further. The human race had taken the final step into space. Space Industry When the resources were being depleted on Earth and harder environmental laws were being issued to prevent a global ecological disaster, the world industry felt compelled to seek out new resources away from Earth and to build up a new industry in space. Using probes and automated mining facilities run by computers and robots their investments would soon pay off. The need for smarter machines also increased the research and development of artificial intelligence. Companies and scientists constructed advanced space probes to scan space and celestial bodies for new data and resources. Space became the new growing market of production and kept the global economy in balance. As a result corporation felt compelled to merge and form new and more financially powerful space corporations in order to compete for these new precious resources. Quantum Technology With leading market interests in space set into motion it led to expanding scientific research and rapid development of new technology. One of the most important scientific and technological revolutions during this age was the development of Quantum Technology. This technology offered lightning speed computer processing and was used to create the first super AI computers, which led to the manufacturing of truly intelligent robots. It also led to a new form of instant global and interplanetary communication, which sent signals through a series of relays and beacons called a hyper link transmissions network. During the course of time this technology would later allow humans to send matter through time and space by means of teleportation, which would become the key to future interstellar travel. Genetic Engineering The complete knowledge of the human DNA allowed genetic alterations of the human body. Held under heavy restrictions the laws to control genetic engineering would allow experiments to help humans adapt to different environments on alien planets in the future. As a result science created the androids, organic humanoid robots engineered from biological materials that could be programmed and tested as virtual copies of real human beings. Due to the advanced knowledge involved in the creation of androids these artificial humans were only used in restricted scientific research. The androids could never surpass the less expensive and practical use of standard robot technology that became available on the open market after the development of the new AI computers. Space Travel Even though signal transmissions had become instant within the solar system the physical means of travel was still quite primitive. Fusion Engines could take space vessels to the colony on Mars in a few months and make it to the furthest planet in the system within three years. It was good enough for efficient interplanetary travel but not practical for human interstellar journeys. Unmanned robot probes that were equipped with this type of propulsion and that were sent out on endless voyages into deep space would take hundreds of years before reaching even the nearest star. Finding a habitable planet for humans at this rate could take more than a thousand years. As for yet all humans had to settle for the planets that were within reasonable reach inside their own solar system. CHAPTER 2 - THE CONQUEST OF SPACE Interplanetary Conquest As interplanetary travel grew the space frontier quickly shrunk because it was limited to the inner boundaries of the solar system and the early ways of space travel. New resources became rare and conflicts between rival corporations grew more violent in their desperate struggle for the claim on new resources to exploit. The fear of a global economical collapse due to a slow stagnation of the interplanetary market, and the threat of an open armed conflict between the leading national corporations would soon compel the scientific community to find ways of sending humans even further into space, far beyond their own solar system. To solve the growing economic problems, the leading global forces within politics, market and science moved together to embark on the greatest enterprise in human history: the Odysseus Project. As this huge endeavor was set into motion the gathered forces within this new global body also took the final step towards a world union. The New World Project Though the market industry was to gain all the advantage from the Odysseus Project, the global public also had to be convinced that they would take part in this great historical enterprise as well. Many struggling conservative nations and its people could easily be caught by fear and anger of being left out. The primary plan to expand the industry and knowledge of space would therefore be officially considered as an important part in what would be referred to as "Man's Greatest Quest". Its main goal was to expand the whole human civilization beyond the solar system and secure the survival of the human race in the future. To take advantage of a project of such a grand scale it was used on global politics to spread the sense of unity around the world, which would calm down the masses. As a further result of this the New World Project was founded along side the Odysseus Project and its primary mission was to find a new planet in a nearby solar system that could sustain human life. But to send humans beyond their own solar system and directly into the unknown infinite voids of space was still too dangerous. The journey was far too long, the search extremely difficult and the construction of life-supporting spacecraft's made the enterprise both technologically and financially crippling. Instead combined efforts and resources were focused on the development of new technology, such as the Jump Rail, Shield Generators and the creation of Antimatter. New Technology The first step towards the development of teleportation technology was the invention of a linear way of teleportation using a construction called a Jump Rail, which was capable of sending matter light-years away straight across space. However, construction and usage was extremely costly and the journey far too inaccurate and risky to be of any real practical use. The amount of material, special constructions and energy consumption needed to create a Jump Gate was not available at the time to make it into a reality. As the creation of antimatter and prototype matter/antimatter reactors was put into use it led to the constructed of the first functional Jump Rail, though it was still far from practical. The mere fact that the Jump Rail would be torn apart by the violent forces released at each launch did not speak well in its favor. For a vessel to survive the immense stress of a launch it was logical to focus on the construction of small and compact vessels. The first tests were based on nanoships but even though the stress |
