Question: Should pilots use the trade channel ?

Having come across a lot of bickering back and forth in Twin Peaks about the trade channel - I thought I'd ask everyone here what they think.

Trade Channel was made for just that - people who want to spam selling/buying things for other people who are looking for the same.

I know a lot of others, myself included, turn off trade chat when in town and not looking to trade for anything.

The question is : Is it acceptable for pilots to spam regular channel instead of the trade channel?

The reason I ask is because this fills up my chat :

=========SELLING FLIGHTS TO CND===========
========Last seat left @ boxes========
======= 20 ped a seat =======
====come chat me=====

I do understand the need to get the information out there, but this will work just fine :

Selling 2 seats to cnd @ boxes. come chat me.

I won't fly with a pilot who spams my chat every 2 seconds. I would rather wait for the next pilot, tbh.

When I asked the pilot - the response was that people are always looking for flights, but not looking in trade chat.

I can fully appreciate this, but shouldn't that be the only time you continously spam my all chat with your "seats for sale"?

So - my question to you is - should pilots use the trade channel for spamming flights?

My opinion:

They are selling, they should be in trade chat.

They are spamming if they announce more than once per screenfull.

They should also know that anyone looking for a flight will have to have some patience, since it takes them a long time to fill the flight, so waiting to post another notice every minute or two should be no big deal.

Lastly, if a person looking for a flight doesn't see the spam often enough, they ask -- and this is quite visible anyway, so it's not like it's really hard for the buyer and seller to hook up in short order (especially compared to how long it takes to go from chat to flight).

I have to agree with this. It's trading - exchanging goods or services for PEDs - same as selling off bits of Pixie.

And yes Mom, if I want to buy then I'll turn trade chat on. If I don't want to then I don't appreciate someone spamming local chat.

I too think it belongs in the trade channel.

And the pilot need not worry, I think many do like me, and make sure to enable trade when looking for a pilot...

I'd say a pilot need to announce even less then the normal trader, since the normal trader want to get impulse buyers.

Going to space is usually a pretty planned event.

And do they really have trouble filling their ships these days? Feels like there always is a pilot shortage these days. Last time I tried, there ended up being like 10 people standing around in Twins waiting for a pilot... Finally I gave up and did something else.

When I'm looking for a pilot I am proactive. I am looking for a flight. I don't fly because someone is selling seats. Selling seats is selling a product/service just like anything else.

and yeah they should use the trade channel since they are spamming enough. If I block out the trade channel I do not want to read 30 pilot ads/min.
