Oh, I'm sure MA has done all the work on this already and it all in place... The Pirates are waiting for us all out in the space lanes.

It's just that the drop rate for the space equipment is quite low...

Google is a fickle friend.

It seems they HAD announced the space pirates part already.
And the new vehicle game-play as well...
I found this report about how great EU is.
In a single sentence, hidden in a sea of tedious blah blah blah:

Travel to and from the planets will be via spaceship through treacherous pirate infested space lanes.

But, treasure hunt? I'll keep searching for it...
