Should there be less use of the F word?

If there's one thing I've learned here at EF, it's this ... variety can be quite spicey, and for all intents and purposes, it can also be quite entertaining. However, I think for the most part, the majority conduct themselves in an adult-like manner, with more a minority having no respect for others, or for how they post. There will always be those few who think it's "cool" or somehow impressive to use an inordinate amount of cursing to express themselves. I've been colorful myself at times, but I certainly don't feel it's a "necessity" in order to emphasize your dislike or upset about something. As far as I'm concerned, someone who feels they can't get their point accross without heavy cursing or rudeness, just shows a lack of effective communication skills. Your mind is your greatest asset, but it's obvious that some abuse it.

Do I think we should censor cursing at this forum ... no, I don't, because it's only a few who seem to have a limited vocabulary and a handicap with expressing themselves without cursing, rudeness, and disrespect. Some blame it on being drunk, or whatever external factor that removes responsibility for their actions, but the end result is still the same ... it doesn't impress in the least, but rather shines a negative light on personal self-control in social situations where most are more respectful toward others ... especially when children might be present. Just as an FYI ... I'm not talking about this forum in particular, but made the statement based on other interaction in posts where other social environments were mentioned.

Question to Ultimababe ... since you are such an advocate of the type of behavior you exhibit here, are you this abrasive, rude, and disrespectful when on duty as a flight attendant? If so, just curious how that works for you!

It was the type of response I expected Ulti, so you didn't disappoint me, and an example that continues to prove how some lack the ability to address "real" issues with "real" responses, but would rather personally attack. Thanks for validating my comments with more of your drivel!

Violet if my tone looks bad because i have little cordiality towards someone that insists on the right to swear when and where she wants regardless of others, then so be it.
By the way, forming an attitude because someone disagrees with your friend isn't really putting forward an objective point, and therefore gives you little credibility.

Rumsponge,you've gone a bit off tangent, i explained my situation, i generally dont call my kids and say come here and look at the dialogue on the forum, they go past sometimes and stop for a chat, and inadvertantly may look at the screen.99% of the time this is fine, the other day the large F word was the less than 1%.
I put a post to discuss and maybe see how others feel, i wasn't dictating anything.
We have the same laws here, you can only take a child to a bar for meals in a Bistro area, and out of those hours it is 18 and over.

Now, you have no idea how much time i spend with my kids or how good a father i am so i would appreciate it if you restricted your less than fair inferences, and apparently by all accounts i dont need your advice.
For your info my kids have been in bed for the last 8.5 hours.
I have put up with some less than mature replies in an effort to see if i could still have my hobby and keep an open and no secrets policy in the home.
As db put forward before i need to take appropriate action, this was testing to see if my community could compromise just a little to help the family people who are also in this community.
Apparently there is great enjoyment from some by not considering others.

Tell me you want your right to swear or not swear, but please dont tell me how to bring up my kids when you dont even know me.

hehe so now im saying what i said because im friends with Ulti, and that gives me little credibility. Im sorry to burst your bubble but i dont even know her. Ive never met her irl, and only seen her a couple of times in game and i dont think we even spoke then.

I would have written what i posted whoever you was having your arguement with because i didnt like your tone. The reason i didnt like your tone is because you are trying to take a morale high ground, yet you can stoop as low as anyone with your patronising insults. This has (in my eyes) made you lose all credibility. Youre not even mature enough to recognise that and admit it.

I think, as others mentioned, the game has mature content and is targeted primarily to a mature, credit-card-using demographic. You got a fair majority of avatars (both n00b and uber) running about in frilly underthings and other...err...decidedly more S & M'ish attire. We got the long boots, short shorts, practically see-through mesh tops, thongs, skimpy bras for the girls...the only thing MA can do to go further down that path is bring in zipper-masks.

Accordingly, the game and this forum shouldn't overly censor people who wish to emphasize a point with a swear word, now and then. Of course, situations will arise when people will swear unnecessarily, but I find that tends to out the person as tending toward immaturity more than anything else.

I try to avoid swearing, and I can do a very effective, more-than-adequate job of cutting someone without swearing...maybe even *moreso* than swearing!

1) your poll choices (particularly #4) are worded in such a poor way as to make it pretty much useless - one has to agree to "i don't care about others" in order to vote for #4

2) many of us have young'ins to think about ... how on earth do we manage to view EF w/out the kiddo's seeing it (if we deem it necessary), but you can't?

use the minimize button, don't visit EF when the kids are awake, set people that use words you don't like to your ignore list - censoring/filtering isn't necessary imo

With all due respect my friend (and I do consider you a friend) ... I didn't interpret any of his posts as taking the morale high ground whatsoever, but rather approaching a topic constructively and asking the community their thoughts. I don't feel that he was trying to "demand or dictate" change, but rather inquiring about the possibility of more effort in how we post ... especially with regard to seeing huge, colored curse words on the screen. However, I do agree that his poll could have been better constructed to give us all an opportunity to vote ... I didn't, because I felt limited by what was offered.

Also, I don't think he was patronizing at all (and I'm assuming you're referring to his responses to Ulti) ... but rather employed a bit of sarcasm and banter the likes of which Ulti first initiated. If you're going to personally attack a person, rather than speak to the topic presented in a constructive manner, then the likelihood of how you get responded to is perhaps evident. I don't blame him one bit for how he responded to Ulti ... she was rude, insulting, flaming, and quite disrespectful ... not to mention that she obviously couldn't get her point across without an indulgence in a colorful manner. That to me showed incredible immaturity, and she can only expect to be reciprocated in kind ... although I actually thought he showed great restraint by using sarcasm and humorous banter.

Exactly ... effectively making your point in an intelligent and constructive manner is like pulling the Ginsu outta the drawer ... the point is sharp enough that you don't feel the effect until long after the job is done. For some, it has a profound impact, for others, well ... it just takes longer!
