The criteria were changed based directly on member feedback in the EntropiaForum Senior Members - Feedback thread. Here is the original version of the opening post (relevant parts bolded for convenience):

Most of the feedback focused on Longevity, which is why is was increased from 1 year to 2 years (and why you did not qualify for the first group of Senior Member promotions):

Yeah, On reflection, I year is (in my opinion) too short to be considered a senior member. I am of the belief that at least 2 years would be required. That would mean I'd be eligible in about 10 months, no biggie, A lot can happen in 10 months.

Seriously, I was just joking around. From my point of view it was pretty funny that way it happened.

Obviously if there was really any bad intention behind it a rule change would have done more than make me wait an extra 3 weeks to qualify.
