Limit on quoted text?

First of all.. I'm not singling out Gandolf at all, I just happened to decide to post after seeing his post, but I see this /a lot/ on EF.

Are one of my biggest pet peeves on the intertubes.. People quoting like 100 lines of text to add their 2 line comment. On some other forums I've seen rules where you'll get an error like 'A post can't be more then 20% quoted text' or somesuch. Does vBulletin have some option that EF could use?

I'd prefer it show only a few lines of the quoted text, and include a link to show (or navigate to) the entire quoted text.

An ajax (digg style) comment expansion would work nice there I think.

yeah, big quotes to add a little comment can sometimes be a plain old waste of space

yeah, the very fact that properly quoted text has a linkbank at the beginning (little grey arrow) is enough to only show some of the quote - i agree totally

Uhm, well, some folks, including me, sometimes split up one bigger quote and put own lines between them. So because of that I'd say that the link alone isn't 100% safe.

What can be done (i.e. I don't know if vBulletin has support for that in some way) is that the whole quote is available but if it's longer a button appears in the bottom right corner of the quote. If it's clicked the quote would expand vertically and show the entire quote. Like if I have 20 lines in one quote it would show like 5 lines and the button. If I click on the button the quote itself expands and shows all 20 lines.

I know a picture says more than a thousand words but I think it's clear what I mean.

Yep, i agree, I split the quote several times, then add my wording, and sometimes i just delete all of the portion that i dont use.

Some people are just lazy with the hit quote button.

Warning One of the creatures that was breaded for examination, a DNA crossing between an Atrox and an Aetherex seemed to be much more powerful and intelligent than expected and managed to escape from the test lab. The creature can either fly or run around, it very fast and powerful.
Since the creature can fly we don't know if it's still location in the proximity of lab on Eudoria where it managed to escape of if it flew all the way to Amethera. So dear colonists be very careful when leaving the cities into unprotected areas. If you run into this fearsome creature gather a good team and kill it before it manage to reproduce and take over our planet.

Wouldn't it be nice to have MA drop a special mob(s) on a random spot once in a while? Like once a month or so without notification on the website of the location.

Since the location is not announced it would mean that everyone have a chance of run into it and can choose the ppl to make a team and attack it.
With the current events are great but the locations are often overcrowded and ppl are mostly out powered by the top-10 soc.'s.

The mob don't have to contain an uber item or something unique, just a good HOF so it appears at least in the higher regions of the HOF list. ;)

I agree, once a quote goes over 10-20 lines, it gets scrolled.

wonder if the option is there. Over to 711 or someone familiar with the OS here.

i do the same, but i copy the '[ QUOTE=endermigne;1327577 ]' (for instance) and put it at the beginning of each block i quote
