OK. have seen this a few times now.
Two statements crop up "Search is your friend" "Please do not bump old threads" But they oppose each other. Example. Here we have a guy posting a post. Taking a Chance (and making you laugh too) Mindbuster kindly directs him to an older post about this very subject. So he makes a post in the thread he was directed to. And promptly gets the thread locked for bumping an old post Falling in love ![]() So, why do they say Search is you friend if when you find an old post about what you want to ask, you get chided and get the post locked because you did search and post where they say you should? I am a bit confused. When is it OK to make a new thread about a subject discussed before. How old does a thread have to be before you can start it up again with a new thread without fear of the "Search is your friend" lock? EF always has new people joining and full of great questions and enthusiasm. Where do they draw the line at when to bump an old post about the same subject, or start a new thread? |

Well, in this particular case it was prolly just an misunderstanding, Savek read the thread I linked to and didnt realize the thread was that old, incase he didnt look at the date, and you cant blame 711 for locking the thread, he prolly didnt see my reply to Savek with the link, if he had he would most likely have locked the thread worded differently.
But maybe you could blame me for tempting Savek to read the post in the first place ![]() Overall it depends on the situation, if it's some outdated topic as in this case the thread gets locked, but you also see lots of other old threads that gets to stay because the topic is still relevant. Also depends on whether the bump is constructive or not, in those cases though if a bump is non-constuctive the post just gets deleted so the thread is buried again. |
