As an aside, I wonder when the bank at Atlas Haven will actually open. It appears to have been a huge non-functioning shell from the moment it appeared.

I wonder what the new banking features will be? Savings accounts are obvious. I wonder if there will be anything else?

Just posting to keep an eye on the thread. I am one of the skeptics who never fully believed in the viability of these so called banks in game. I`ll be in the corner snickering and pointing with AJack.

Do you go to a bank to look at it or to borrow cash? Pointless comment. Banks are still quite crappy and it will not change unless population of entropia growns 10 times. Yes 10 times, the only usefull bank now is ND's one but I think he doesn't make as much profit as he expected. So if we want to see 5 banks prospering there need to be 10x more players at least.

Forthermore I cant see how can the option of deposits improve the situation of banks. IRL banks takes deposits to have cash for credits. Who is supposed to borrow cash from deposits if there is not enough players? The only way to spend that cash is to make further investments in lands and items. But cant the bank owners do it with their irl cash?

And I dont suppose that MA will add next bank after 2 year grace period expiring. Before banks all big sales ( CND, lands, malls) were a big success but banks so far have turned out to be a crap investment so MA will not want to ruin their reputation by screwing banks up even more. Besides nobody would buy the next licenses for a big cash And MA needs these big sales not as an income but as an advert.

Did one of those bank showed data ?
Did someone have counted customer ?

Or i have miss data from a bank owner ?

Can evryone stop make fact from assumption and "feeling" , and show me data ?

I can make such an assumption because I can see how often my friends use the bank and how much I use it myself. And I think this usage does not ganerate much income for bank owners.

If banks ganerated enough profit I think all would be opened and widely advertised. And we can see how the situation looks like now.

what you need to understand is that people are not stating facts about the banks.... they just descussing it... with anshee saying bank wasnt as big of a success that she hoped for, and with the people we play with in entropia, we can see how many people around us, are using the banks... and make a estimate of its success....

i havent seen Anshe in game lately but just when the orbs started coming up (i know quite a time ago) i heard they were doing quite good..

Retoric questions, I would like to know too but no one will ever disclose such data...especially not if it proves their investment was an outright failure, as it looks to be in case of the banks / pawnshops.

This business rule is applied by all bank owners pretty good.

A bank in entropia does work, there will always be people who want to use the service.
But EU does not need 5 banks!
One bank is enough for the whole universe!

Afterall we do not have more than aprox 30.000 active players and probably only 20.000 players that have items that are worth pawning.
I estimate that from those 20k players not even 5% will acutally use a bank...

So in the end there will be 1, maybe 2 banks successfull.
The rest is doomed for failure

I think most comments here reflect the fact that most players don't see the banks as a useful thing, and don't use them. I know quite a few people do, but it's hardly huge business.

At the time, it did seem to me that 5 banks was one helluva lot of banks for such an unproven market. MA have been much more careful about this sort of thing in the past - usually they release one thing at a time just to test the water, and if it doesn't work out, they don't release any more.

However, in this case, I'm pretty darn sure MA decided to release 5 at the same time for the cash influx it would create. They knew people would lap them up because of their past record with such ventures. Easy money for not too much work if you ask me. Each buyer had to put in at least $150k to get it going. 5 * 150 = $750.

That's $750,000 for building a few buildings, and creating a single interface. Pretty good rates, wouldn't you say? The bank purchases themselves go straight into MA's pocket, and the rest on their balance sheets.

But this is the thing with such a tightly controlled environment. The success of these banks isn't just down to how well the individuals run them. That's only a small part of it really. MA controls how useful the banks are to the people, and if they are only ever going to be glorified pawn shops, they are never going to meet the expectations of the investors, or the customers.

If the banks want to provide a particular service, they have to rely on MA to implement it. Somehow, I think their priorities are focussed on other things at the moment
