Just how do we know which Mod is on duty at any time?
I mean, say if someone had been accidentally given a temp ban or their post had been completely misinterpreted...how would they know who to appeal to? Especially if the mod didn't post an explanation or send a PM about it? Or would they have to PM 711 and wait for him to get round to reading it? This bit is a load of rubbish...ignore it --->Curious about this as a friend has found himself stopped from posting and he's a bit confused by it.<--- Last edited by Chimp; 07-13-2008 at 01:26. Reason: I can't read PM's either :S |

I don't think that moderators are actually "on duty" as much as that they deal with stuff while they are online. When they are online, they will be in the list on the bottom of the Home page. I suspect that you will still have to PM someone, regardless.

I always thought they PM'd or posted an explanation. Is what I tend to get with my more...er...wacky threads ![]() Not me anyway...just sticking my nose in. Though it is a reasonable issue; I know of 2 or 3 who are Mods; couldn't list more. Heck, might not even be more. Sure it'll all be sorted out...I just know how I feel when my internet goes down; being unable to reply to something you see staring you in the face when you're not sure of the reason must be hell ![]() Like usual, I have about 1/2 the story. Apologies if anyone is getting a raw deal from this thread...mod or member. |

Well, I know for a fact JimmyB is busy, cos I was just hunting with him.
Although, knowing I just logged off, he may feel its time to mod EF ![]() Nah, no-one is here 24/7 I believe, they kinda just catch up, and check 'reported posts'. ..and do a quick stroll through new posts, to check for anything against rules. Think its just Jimmy, Skam, 711..and Kejitil, but I dont see Kjetil post much ![]() |

k...thanks for all the replies; turns out I got the wrong end of the stick (as usual).
But there is still a point about moderation...do they always notify a moderated person at the time? First post will be altered to show that I am a complete idiot; but I'll leave it intact so I can have my wrist slapped ![]() |

There's no official 'mod on-duty' system. If we see something that needs dealing with whilst we're on the forum we'll deal with it there and then. Otherwise its normally a case of checking the reported posts when we see them in our mail and have time to look into them.
The full moderation staff for the main forum is 711, Mindbuster, Skam, Kjetil and myself. Kjetil isn't around too much though. Sometimes some of the staff browse in invisible mode so you won't necessarily be able to tell if they're online or not. I don't use invisible mode though, so you can certainly see if I'm on or not. Bear in mind though, people remain "online" until they've been inactive for 15min, so someone may appear to be on but have actually left - if you check someone's profile it says when their last activty was. For thread closes, we'll normally close it with a post explaining why. For thread deletes, we'll sometimes PM the person who created the thread with an explanation. If its someone who knows better and just broke the rule anyway we may not though. Likewise we may be busy and not have time to PM the person. Generally I will PM someone if its an unusual rule that is being broken. And the newer the member is the more likely they are to get a PM explaining the rule. With someone who's been around for ages and is breaking a rule and know they are (or should know), then you're not very likely to get a PM. Last edited by Jimmy B; 07-13-2008 at 01:47. |

![]() I do think even people who know better should get a quick note in the thread at least as to it happening and why though. There is the 'odd person' who pushes the envelope occasionally...pointing out reasons has a lot of advantages, even if it boils down to "You know the rules by now, enjoy the break". Still, with the amount of posts compared to number of mods I get why it may not always happen. |

Despite common perception its really pretty rare for people to get banned (excluding accounts created for spam, duplicate accounts to create trouble, etc). There's currently only 6 people serving temporary bans. Only one of those happened in the last few days, and so I presume that's who you're talking about. And looking at the post that caused it, there's absolutely no way they don't know why they got banned. |
