Remove the Reputation System.

In one of my other forums the rep system is pretty much a joke... there's even a "Rep Whore" thread for people to do massive repping runs each day to increase each other and hope the others reciprocate...

I don't care either way. Rep really means nothing to me, unless of course the amount of rep is tied to certain restrictions within the forum, for example <=0 Rep = Can't post or something...

All good fun though, don't put too much stock on negative comments... its just the internets.

Reputation systems handed out by the general userbase who have no little understanding of the rules or subtleties only destroy them from the inside out, general posters should not be doing the work that is the realm of the admins and mods only...otherwise what is the point of having them except as glorified topic closers?

Nah, I say keep it. (True, I could be biased since I have lots of rep, but hear me out.)

Rep (good or bad) for me is most often little private comments about a post, or simply someone saying "I agree/I disagree", without having to enter into the thread.

They are a bit better than PMs, since they link directly to the post they mention, and are unlimited. I can review the rep that says "You've got your head up your ass mate", and see exactly which post upset them.

You are correct, that many folks are quick to neg or plus rep, or use the rep system in another way. On that part, I agree. However, that's life. Oftentimes a product isn't always used exactly the way they were originally intended.

Breath Right nasal strips were designed to stop snoring, but folks found use for them in sports.

Vaseline... well you get the idea.

I get annoyed sometimes when I -rep a totally stupid post (whining, rude stuff, swearing, etc) and the person I neg repped actually bother enough to go and find a post by me in another bloody thread just to be able to negrep me back with some comment like "yeah really mature to negrep me like that asshole" or "fuck off you idiot jerk"

the funny thing are the people who call me immature for negrepping them... after they were childish enough to search for a post by me just to get 'revenge'

But about removing the system .. nope .. I love it

I <3 my little rep star. It took me a couple years to earn it, and I did it without asking for the reps. (signature / posts / blogs / etc.(you all know who you are))
