I have one question sparhawke, have you tried resolving the neg reps with pms?

I have recieved 2 neg reps ever in my time on ef. One was random by someone new ant it didn't affect my standing. The other was by a long time member with heavy weight. Not to sound mean I didn't run to the forums and start a thread. It was a miss understanding. I pm this person and I asked him why. From his point of view he felt I was bumping a thread to increase activity, but after explaining my post he apologized and that was the end of it. If he said "too bad" to me I honestly wouldn't of lost sleep over it. I could have a big fat red rep and I could care less. Life goes on. If someone takes 10 minutes to know me in real life or around ef/eu they know what my rep is worth.

I think the rep system is fine as it is. I do agree however some might abuse it. I admit I passed out one kinda hastily in the past that I regret. If anything I rather discuss a disagreement or something I don't agree with in pm, rather just hit the neg rep button to prove a point.

This thread makes me think of another... one where I argued in favor of people evaluating what I say based solely on what's being said. Removal of the reputation system woud definitely help with that. There would be no influence of the shiny green bars below my name. "He has lots of green bars. He must know what he's talking about."

That being said, I think experience counts for a LOT in this game. I do tend to be influenced more by those shiny green bars when I'm asking for help with my hunting setup, my mining, or my all around skilling. I look to those more experienced when I'm trying to minimize my spending and maximize my PED balance.

I guess what I'm saying is that I see your point, but I don't see why removal of the rep system would benefit us at this game's forum.

Leave the system "as is". If you got a -rep you didn't deserve, then forget about it. If the person persists, contact an admin. If you got a -rep you deserved, learn from it and do better next time. I've had a few -reps. Most are revenge from someone I -repped. Some are very stupid and did not make any sense whatsoever. Oh well. Just keep chugging along. If it bothers you too much, you may want to find a different place to hang out if you can't adjust. Just my two pecs. And just like the -reps, it don't mean much.

i think i earned all my neg rep by posting things i knew little about.. i learned from them and decided to try my best to keep my opinion to my self on these forums... if i feel like expressing my self (in a negetive way)..i do it else where

if i agree with someone who i know is going against the grain .. i just keep it to my self or give them a +rep and a littel coment about how i agree with them ... this system has been working for me quite well and i belive it keeps my rep in line which actuallly is important to me ...

In my experience, the neg rep I have received comes from 2 sources:
1. Friends of the person I went off on
2. People who didn't get the point.

Neither bothers me. Friends should stick up for their friends, you got to expect them to blast you when it happens. And people who don't get the point, or misunderstand, they just happen.

Don't forget that there is people in the other end and people have different oppinions. If you get a neg or a plus rep, does it really matter?

I think I have had some neg reps in my time here, and honestly I don't bother counting or checkin them. My life goes on anyway.

Most people don't get how the system is supposed to be used. If you neg rep someone for being off topic, you get a return neg rep on a random post of your saying you're an asshole. If you neg rep someone for flaming, the same thing happens. On top of that you have a load of people "saying" when they give their rep just so people will really know they did it - which is also againt the rules but it happens all the time by everyone so it's no point reporting it.
