I'm far away to say that rules aren't necessary. Like many people using this forum, I am one of those who have or had administrational duties and responsibilities and serving a community in many ways like forums, IRC-channels...whatever you can imagine. I think that 25 years of my experience on the networks is enough to clearly see what's going on here. Because I've seen that many times before.

Most of the rules are okay, some are clearly not necessary in some points concerning the diversity of the forum, free exchange of knowledge and maybe even freedom of speech.

Rule # 8:
If you don't allow to criticise in an open way, you say simply "shut up". Given that the post in question is polite and constructive, there's nothing to worry about it. Criticism in a polite and constructive way is a way to improve the forum. If that's what you want, make that clear. But don't simply disallow it.

Rule # 11:
I really like that rule. I don't like SHOUTING too. Especially when moderating a chat channel on IRC or reading Usenet postings. But... You're serious? You want to edit/delete posts, warn and ban people if they "shout"? That's absurd. That's like beating a dog for barking.

Rule # 15:
Discussing other games is not allowed: that's okay. But even to mention other MMORPG by their name? Oh, come on. Relax a bit...

Rule # 16:
Discussion of real world topics belongs to an off-topic section of the forum, that's my opinion. Do you mean the same? Or is discussion about the real life forbidden from now on in the entire forum? Please make that clear.

Rule # 18:
To be frank: this rule is simply ridiculous. This is overregulation.

Rule # 19:
Well, if people don't see that this is not an official MindArk or EU Forum, make that clearer.

Rule # 28:
Again an example of overregulation.

And then, concerning the notes:

"The EF administrators shall be the sole arbitrators of what does and does not violate EF community standards."

This negates your whole set of rules.

To make it clear: I don't have any intention to violate your rules. I'm a mature person with responsibilites. But I think that YOUR intent is to overregulate the forum. The users of this forum don't like to be seen as a menace that has to be ruled. They are customers.

If you behave thoughtfully and with consideration for others then the chances are you will not even need to read the rules.

I confess I have never read the old rules and probably won't get around to reading the revised ones. In fact I don't think I have read the rules for any forum I have ever visited.

Maybe I will unwittingly break some specific EF rule someday and get my wrist slapped but as this hasn't happened so far I would guess that most of the rules are irrelevant to people who behave in a civilized manner.

No Mod at this forum is an MA employee, and there's nothing more to discuss with regard to Jag Ly or his being banned as stated in this thread ...

Not trying to stir anything, or that it is any big deal but I was always under the impression that Marco had certian moderator privileges.
