The idea itself is surely nice but there should be limits so the english parts won't die out.
So if you make a french / german / spanish / (british? ) / etc forum only make 2 sub forums there to make threads: N00b Help and maybe Off-Topic just to spam around. So you avoid that every nation will just live on it's own which would destroy this great forum. ![]() |

I knew I had done it before .. I just had to find it.
Check out this very page in spanish. LOOK WHAT I CAN DO !! ![]() It's easy .. either copy & paste text .. or paste a web address into the bar on the bottom of the page - Google Translator FTW !! Of course it's hard to translate from one language to another, as it might be "literal translations" While you KNOW what it means, it's not pratical or normal language. But you get the idea of the webpage and it's contents, etc. And .. no extra work, bandwidth, or mods necessary. Most importantly, of course ... nobody takes away from my trolling .. *Edit .. updated link* |

Whilst its a shame people who don't speak English can't use EF, I think the cons outweigh the pros on this one. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but presumably people in that situation would have quite serious difficulty playing EU at all (or are there clients for other languages?).
I guess the difficulty of making sure the forum rules are stuck to can be solved by getting some new mods and making sure there's at least one who can read a given forum. But I think everyone would lose out if people starting just posting in their own language sections. Obviously, as someone who's first language is English, its easy for me to say that. I have a lot of respect for how well people who struggle with English get by on the forum - and I admit I'd be completely lost trying to post on a Spanish forum. But at the same time, I don't think I'm voting No here solely for selfish reasons. Perhaps for Private Forums though? |

We donīt need language sections.
Who canīt read/write english surely uses other forums in his native language. There are so many around. When I look at german forum, I see most people registered at the german forum are also registered here. Often I see threads out of this nice forum linked into german forum. It works fine how it is. I canīt speak for other languages, but think there exists similar forums in their native language, and surely there will be links and translations, too! |

I like the idea, but the other language sections should be minimal adn not have the same extensive structure as the current sections.
I know as well some ppl ingame that sometimes read the forum but don't write because they afraid that ppl would make fun out of them due bad English. For those ppl it would be a good step to enter the forum and get help/communicate with others. Finding one or two mods for each common language in Eu can't be that hard imo. |

I think this is a bad idea, but I think there is a good 'halfway' solution.
It's certainly true that there are people who don't use EF regularly because they are non-English speakers, or aren't comfortable with English, who would benefit from a forum that didn't enforce an English-only rule. At the same time I can understand the reasons behind the forbidding of non-English language. So how about this - would it be possible to add a SINGLE non-English sub-forum in which people could post in their own languages? Not a French forum and a Spanish forum and a Lithuanian sub-forum, but a general, all-encompassing non-English sub-forum. The main purpose of this, as I see it, would be to allow players with no English, or poor English, to partcipate in EF events. It would also help in situations where support news etc needs to be translated (e.g. we just changed the ingredients on a really important BP but we aren't going to tell anyone who doesn't speak English or doesn't read EF........sound familiar?). I wouldn't expect this new forum to be a particurlaly busy one, or to have any ongoing conversation. But it would be nice if all those Bertha Bot posts and other official posts could actualy be seen by everyone, instead of only communicating them to a certain %age of the players (something that cost me 10 PED and a week of work recently)......... Hopefully this would solve the problem the next time MA make a significant change to an existing item (which theyre not supposed to do, by the way, according to what they've told us all these years), for example changing the ingredients on a really important BP WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE WHO DIDN'T HAPPEN TO READ EF THAT DAY. I bet there are people who are reading who don't even know about the BP change..... let me know please Last edited by Oleg; 01-27-2008 at 00:41. |
