New plate discoveries

New uber protection cold and electric plates have been discovered, I imagine acid and burn ones are soon to follow.

What does this mean as a clue towards future development?

I think one of two things:

1) Heavy specialized damage mobs will appear where this is needed
2) MA wanted more people to hunt specialized mobs, so they are making it easier for people with lower armor to be able to do so.

Anyone has other thoughts?

Primarily I think it's just another push of the (L) equipment. Limited plates, especially the 8As, have proved a lot more popular than (L) armour.

It's probably no coincidence that these have appeared just before Landgrab - in a few weeks time we'll probably have big Cersumons around, for example, and these new plates would be very useful for that.

So they'll probably be quite popular, at least in the short term.

I don't think it means we should expect to see new electric/cold/whatever mobs, though it does certainly open up some possibilities in that direction (not so much in electric as there are already quite a few, but difficult cold and acid mobs are quite thin on the ground).

Ah good point, didn't think of that. I would love to see some large cersumons, the ones on oyster are kinda lame. But this does not expalin the cold plates, as the thorifoids already go all the way up to master...

The did this so now people can actually hunt the land grab mobs, besides a chosen few with uber rare armor MA refuses to drop.

The Thorifoids at the temple aren't in the best spot though - miles from a revive and TP, and mixed with the other thor-type mobs.

The Landgrab gives us the possibility of a dedicated spawn of bigger Thorifoids in the LA by Wolverine. Remember too that it's not just about upping the high end of what people can handle - yes, people with Viking can add the new cold plates for some very heavy cold protection, but also people with Kobold or Ghost could add them and be able to handle tougher Thorifoids than without the plates, which would be great if that LA turns out to be populated with Gatherer/Seeker level mobs.

You don't see a lot of Orca around, these plates could change that with the boost they will give. I've never seen anyone wearing Orca, only in shops.

Orca won't become more common without more Ultra Cold Fabric, which is what the harness requires. Even if you are lucky enough to have a UCF blueprint, getting hold of sufficient quantities of Phasm Wool/Textile to make it is a slow process.

I tend to agree with Oleg. MA seems to be doing everything they can to push the (L) crap.

With everything but Armor, they give you SIB to make the item much more efficient than similar ones. With the (L) armor, all they can do is boost protection and longevity to get people to buy it.

If the trend continues, we will be at the point where a noob can buy a set of (L) armor and plates and hunt anything on the planet without taking any damage whatsoever.

I still think the stuff looks cartoonish.
