Very useful John.
I'm a bit concerned though that your target audience of newer players may be under-protected in some cases. You assume the kill speed of a Korss 400 + A104 amp. To take the example of a Berycled Dominant or Alpha. I doubt if bare Pixie is enough with a slower weapon, or low Evade. |

It's a nice try but I think for many of the mobs you're underprotected.
I think to hunt economicaly one of the main rules is to only fap at the end of a kill. This rule can be broken for those with an adj fap or better, but for most of us it's a good rule. If you're taking up to 30dam and you have 100hp then 2 good hits puts you under half health and leaves you open to a crit, which means you're gonna have to fap - and even 3 above average hits will put you in the same position. I know your just trying to make a basic guidline but there really is no best armour for each mob. You need to take into account the individuals health and evade. Pixie might be fine for someone with 150hp and avoidance, but a noob could be dieing every few mobs. The wiki armour tool is awesome. I think the best thing for people to do is decide on a damage spread they're happy with (which will be different depending on how often u get hit and how much health u have) and then play around with the tool to find the most suitable armour - remembering that it's usualy better to have low armour protection fortified with a big plate. |

Those of you that are concerned are quite right. This list is not perfect for everyone. In many cases, my suggestions leave you under-armored. If your evade or dmg/sec stats are low, you could be in trouble if you follow this list exactly.
Conversely, if you got high evade and an imp fap, you may need even less armor than I list. As Slither said Quote:
Even I don't follow this list perfectly. I hunt hispidus nekked, gradivore stalkers in goblin but with high thorios, grem+5B isn't even close to enough protection for me. I have to adjust my personal situation, but when I go hunting, I check this list before getting dressed to make sure I'm not wearing rascal when gremlin can offer just as much protection for less cost. |

+rep... very nice post! This is definitely a great starting point for low-level hunters. It gives an overall picture on what to expect by using ballpark numbers. Certainly can't take it dot-for-a-dot, but it'll point you towards the right direction.
Nice job JohnCapital.... |

As I said in the opening post:
Quote:
However, in impact/cut, such as against Faucervix, you end up with only 1 extra point of protection, which costs you more decay while not giving enough protection difference to really matter. |

I am getting different results using entropedia.info, maturity levels
for example argo: Click to enlarge Argonaut Young-Gatherer = Pixie Guard-Raider = Pixie+5a Hunter = Rascal+5b Warrior+ = Ghost+5b for example if you compare pixie+5a with unplated gnome, entropedia suggests it's cheaper to use gnome. Is entropedia using old values? another thing is: you say 25 damage is optimal.. argonauts have high aggro and tend to gang up on you.. I don't think 25 damage is optimal in that case, because you will simply die if 3 or 4 argo's gang up on you. And dieing with damage done to a mob costs more then a bit higher decay. I always had a rule, more then one damage, but less then 11 or so as an optimal. Is that wrong?? Last edited by Spawn; 04-24-2008 at 10:24. |

However, I also remember wanting to go with armor+plates over armor alone, because the overall decay works out better. The only armor-only choices I have are when plates would simply add too much protection/decay. For example when hunting, say twin peaks, you get young-scavenger w/ the occasional raider/hunter, so your armor has to adjust better for that. You can't armor up for only hunters, because the youngs will chew your profit away. So, I could say I opted for the pixie+plates option because of agro and varying maturity factors, however it could just as well be that I overlooked the gnome-only option. ![]() Do some testing. If gnome-only works for you and offers a lower bill then pixie+plates, great. However, check your fap decay as well during your tests. If the gnome works out better in practical hunting, let me know and I'll update the list. |

I use (L) Bodyguard + 6Bs for Bhogs and Tezlas and it works very nicely. With the bonus that (L) armour has no equipping charge. Not even for the footguards ![]() Quote:
Although I haven't gone into any meaningful detail on decay of this combo it's usually a lot less than others in different armour have had who've been hunting the same mobs for roughly the same amount of time. It's reasonably light, reasonably durable, surprisingly effective - and it's cheap to keep in full condition. It's also good for Argo Hunters without needing to fap usually. 5As also have the highest durability ingame by a fair whack, except for the (L) plates ofc |
