Hi All,
Just wanted to get some opinions between 5B's and 8A(L) Armor Plating. I'm mostly looking for an Armor plating to add to my Ghost and these platings have the close to the same protection that I want. 5B's are great but very expensive ~1k peds for a set. 8A's are more affordable ~500 peds for a set but they are limited. You got to buy new ones once they are unusable. I would to get some people's opinion on which one do you use and why? Also, if someone could help me find a thread that explains durability on Armor plating and how much decay is calculated. I would appreciate it. 5B's have 900 durability 8A (L)'s have 12990 durability. Thanks you crazy bunch! ![]() |

I like to use 8A (L) because I enjoy long hunts. With the L items, they do not lose protection as they decay while the un-L armors/platings lose a bit of protection as they get lower in condition.
Really it depends on your playstyle. If you like long hunts and not repairing for a few hundred thousand rounds of ammo, then I would recommend those. If you like short bursts of hunting, the 5b's will pay for themselves in usefulness as you wont have to remove the platings to repair. With an (L) plate on your armor, it wont go into the repair terminal until you remove the (L) plates... which means taking off the armor... which means decay. So with 5b's 'permanently' attached to your Ghost armor, you just have to hit your Repair Armor button and it will put it all in without any hassle or fee. If you were using (L) armor, I would have recommended the (L) plates a bit more highly but using un-L armor with (L) platings or vice versa is a hassle. Usually I like (L) armor + (L) plates, or un-L armor + un-L plates to avoid the pec equipping fee. As to the durability factors and all that, I believe Jimmy B has conducted some thorough testings so you might want to browse his threads when using the Search function for what you need. Good luck mate! |

Armor decay calculator, and a link at the top of that page takes you to the full description of how armor decay works.
If you're on an I/C/S mob, 8A will absorb up to 32 damage and decay 2.347 PECs at that amount (13.634 dmg/pec). 5B, with its famously bad durability, will decay 2.514 PECs while absorbing 29 damage (11.535 dmg/pec). If you pay over 118% on the 8A, the 5B is cheaper in dmg/pec. |
