Maybe this should be stuck in the newbs area. I have been slowly accumulating armor parts (all newb stuff- 4 pieces of pixie, 4 gnome and 2 goblin pieces.). I have decided to try and built a full set. Every post seems to state for newb players to buy a get a set of pixie armor. From looking at the stats, gnome seems to be a better set, essentially being Pixie II. To complete the set, gnome sells for about the same markup as pixie at auction as well. So my question, is the lower cost alone the reason most experienced players tell newbs to get pixie? Is pixie more available and its simply easier to buy a set of it? Or is gnome better if I can strap together a set for the same price (relative to tt value) than pixie.
I have not needed any armor and normally hunt naked. But for stepping up to an M1A or M2A and going after higher maturities of Diakibi, Exasuars and berycleds, I think I am going to need some protection. |

I always tell my disciple to go either Goblin (you will love the higher impact protection which is also most common for noob mob) or Shogun (cheap and offers a wide protection).
If Shogun is out of your budget I would say Goblin. Not because of acid protection, you hunt snables naked anyway, but for the 12 impact and superior protection vs noob mobs. Gnome I dont know much about. But compared to Goblin its pretty much the same thing. 11 impact but 4 cut. Still, noob mobs does mainly do impact. So goblin still offers 1 more protection. |

Well couple of points with Pixie vs Gnome:
1. Pixie is available, while you may need to search the Gnome parts, when i was trying to get mine i got arm guards only after a couple of weeks, checked auction every day. Pixie you can just get from some seller on the street. 2. Gnome tt value is almost double, same with the markup, so those aditional peds can realy hurt a new player. |

Pixie is a recommended starter armour because it's cheap, easy to obtain and has low decay due to its low protection.
When you're new and have low defence skills, it's best not to rely on armour to protect you against mobs that you couldn't otherwise kill. You could go out as a huntng noob with Ghost+5b and get 1.0 hits all the time against small Atrox, but your decay bill will he huge because you'll be getting hit nearly every time. With Pixie you get a light protection which is good against lots of low-level mobs, which is exactly what you need as a beginner hunter. I often recommend that new players try to loot a set of Pixie for themselves. You can start by killing Snables without armour and gradually build it up by hunting other easy mobs. Gnome is exactly as you say, it's Pixie Mark II, with a little bit of added protection. It's a good armour and one I'd recommend as a small upgrade from Pixie. I often use Gnome (and Pixie) for eco-hunting now. So while I'd still suggest Pixie is the best beginner armour, I'd also recommend Gnome as an alternative. It's a bit more difficult to get a full set together (especially trying to loot it yourself because you'll need to go on beacon missions) and a little more expensive, so its a matter of whether you think the added effort and expense is worth it for a couple of points of extra protection. |

Best armor for fresh oj is the revive terminal.
![]() Seriously, though, i wouldn't recommend a noob wear pixie until they have spent quite a few hours hunting snables, daikibas and exas in their prison clothes. If you need armor to kill those mobs, team up with another noob. Not everyone is obsessive about armor decay, though. |

I usually recommend my disciples not using armor at all. And team up for mobs they can't hunt without armors. Next step is pixie and then shogun when they scrap some peds for it. Actually I think that they can leave pixie stage and go for shogun, but ofc not after a week ingame, but when they decide to stay a bit longer. I suppose that many of newbies want even weak armor maybe to get rid of orange clothes or to have a feeling of being pro hunters... I remember that I wanted a settler (which was nice looking white and blue armor back then) because I thought it will provide me with some protection lol

Well Pixie works great for Cornundacauda Mature and the decay is so low...newcomers can easily take them down with an Opalo and I guess it's pretty hard without armor (at least for newcomers)...you just need to find the right mob so it's neither underprotecting nor overprotecting.

Gnome is better than Pixie.
Gnome is generally harder to acquire, but if you say that can get it for about the same price go for it. ![]() Goblin is good if you are going after big snables I guess. The amount of acid protection it gives isn't going to be useful for anything else though. I have a set of goblin that I keep at about 50% condition for sweating snables, but they also don't hit me very often so it's not taking much decay. If you want to do a better analysis of what to expect from armors, check the mob-maturity table at entropedia. It allows you to select what creature and what armor you want and see what kind of dmg and decay you will get from min dmg, max dmg, and avg dmg hits. http://www.entropedia.info/Chart.aspx?chart=MobLevel |
