To test the plate first you need to take a hit of less than the plate protects do you not? So case in point - Impact protection. Using a 5B go for a Daikiba or Bery Young (has to be a young) and take a hit.

Check the decay on both the base armour and the plate.

You will need to repeat this test as there is no one mob that delivers 100% impact at less than or equal value to the 5B or even 8A max impact protection. Unfortunately sweating chirpies makes them run off not attack.

Until you have done this a few times and see if the base armour decays every single time you can then say the base armour decays at least the minimal decay even if the plate sucks up mose of the dmg.
I tested this about 8 times. I could also notice when the mob hit less then 9 damage. In that case, both pixie and 5b had exactly the same decay.

I had it with putting fruit into the TT for now So if you want more accurate data, I am affraid you will have to test yourself.

Exactly the same decay? On 9 impact and 12 impact?

So it breaks down more or less this way:

Damage over the protection of the armor or plates (whichever protect more) --> decay on both according to their maximum level of protection for that damage type

Damage under the protection level of the armor and of the plates -> equal decay to both

Is that right?

But why equal?

Thanks for your fruit work.

For example: you recieve 8 damage:

8 damage goes to pixie -> 8 is absorbed -> 0.42 pec decay
8 damage goes to 5b -> 8 is absorbed -> 0.42 pec decay

total absorbed = 16. 8-16=-8 = impossible so you recieve 1 damage.
Total decay = 0.82

There is btw a more simple way to get lower then 12 damage, by simply using a crappy melee weapon (TT PF for example)

Then you can get 100% definate proof.

lol of course, I wasn't thinking laterally there hehe. TT pf does Imp. and Elec. though so you would still have to try something like Shogun for the test to work.

If you get the at min on the host armour when the plate takes the whole of the damage that really does suck. And will make me seriously think about how I use the plates in future.

I am pretty sure btw the variation is indeed linear btw.(i cant remeber why, i just can remeber i concluded some time ago it was ).
Witte, this is an outstanding job for the average damage and decay! It took me re-reading this thread to see that you had taken multiple samples along the possible hits, rather than the "easy route" of just assuming a 75% hit every time (which would make the result meaningless, really).

I'll +rep ya again when I can!

What would make this feature awesome is if you would divide the average protection by the average decay to add a column for protection/pec. Otherwise it's hard to decide what setup is the most eco.

hem... just to make it clear on armor platings:

If I hunt a 50-max-hit impact mob, I should bya a armor+plate that gives me no more than 50 hit combined?

(like, to say, 30-imp-max from armor and 20-impact-max-adsorbed from plate)

And, secondly, the minimum decay does work the same too for plates (or it goes down to 0 for 0 HP hit?)
