I am looking in to getting involved in the field of crafting. What I am wondering is when you are crafting level 1 and 2 items such as basic filters is it possible to make a profit (even a tiny profit) while doing so? Also what level would one need to get up to to start making a regular profit from this field. Any other tips and suggestions you have for a noob would be appreciated.
Many Thanks, Nathan "Robin" Russell ![]() |

In my opinion you always need some luck.
You should try making basic filters ( if you want to make components for now) Dont know if there is a level when you always make profit... i guess not. I think it depends on your Blueprint QR / Skills / and luck. |

It's tough (not impossible) to profit on filters. You'd want to start with a high QR bp, so that you have maximum possible chance of success to start. Then you need to get your lyst and oil as cheaply as possible (socmates might even tt it to you). Then you need to sell the crafting residue for as high markup as possible, so get to know the market well. Finally, you need some luck
![]() Most likely you will simply minimize your losses while skilling up with filters. I suppose if you count the value of skills you gain, that might push you into profit. I just looked at my crafting logs for 2009, and I was about -300 on filters then +800 on dampers getting to BPC. It's mostly a matter of if and when the hof(s) come. |

Thanks for your advice. If I want to start by crafting basic filters and working my up from there what would you say would be a good starting budget? Also since I will probably be crafting mostly mechanical components, what would be good things to craft to get myself up to the highest levels and therefore hopefully making a big profit?
Thanks |

Maybe start the other way round:
Look at the auction which crafted items are selling with good markup. Then look at the bp. How much does it cost to buy the bp. How much costs one click on the bp. And so on. Then you have to decide if you want to go that route. If someone told me at the starters I will end up hunting with 100 bucks input in two hours hunting I might have started playing EU differently (more like I would not have listened, lol) In the end you have to build a bankroll big enough to cover the losses. How big this bankroll has to be is hardly determined and nowadays even harder to obtain from scratch. You will not profit on the single click event on any item. Its either the residue that will drop if over TT, or globals/hofs or BPs to sell that will pay the crafting. So you will have to have certain amount of globals, bps that drop etc. And those come with many clicks. Maybe a regular Apis Crafter can give you an idea how many clicks they do and how much input for that run is to be considered, just to give you a rough idea, what numbers you will run into. I don't think they click only 4 clicks on 'em. Filters are peanuts^^ |

Thanks for all the advice, I think I need to rethink my strategy. I am thinking of starting out crafting weapons as of course there is a high demand for such products. All I need now is a place to start, in what area is it best to start crafting in? Also how would I get started in crafting things such as weapons etc?
Thanks. |

First of all, if you want to make a profit or brake even, you need to be able to sell whatever you're crafting. Among other things, this means that you shouldn't craft ex. basic filters, which is utterly useless. Further more, you should, at least as long as you're relatively unskilled, only craft BPs with SIB (skill increase bonus).
Then there's the matter of making a steady profit. You need to craft something that there is a demand for, ex. basic sensors. Many like to take a chance crafting OA-101 amps and for that they need basic sensors. They could of course craft the sensors them selves, but that's not really that interesting as the chance of hitting a HOF is not very high. Mind you, this is only an example, I can't recommend basic sensors as it's not an SIB BP, but the principle is the same. Should you succeed in finding a BP, suitable for your level, which is a SIB BP and where there's a steady demand for the end product, the next step is raising the QR (quality rating) of the BP, unless of course you buy a BP which is already QR 100. So when you have a good BP at QR 100, have found providers of resources and takers of your product, it's just a matter of skilling up while earning money to pay for your next big goal. Maybe you want to craft OA-105's or something. I do believe that this, if you use your head, is possible with a reasonable budget, but it will be a very slow process and unless you're ready to invest a lot of money, it will stay that way for a very long time and most likely you'll be bored to death very soon ![]() I hope I've been able to help, I wish you luck and hope to hear more of your endeavours. Best Regards |

The problem is to find something marketable in the early stages. You mentioned weapons. Ok. A Jester D-1 or Mann MPH is a good place to start. You could make a million of 'em. But nobody will buy them. The TT weapons are just better and cheaper. They are TT food. But...You will build skills to make other weapons that will sell. But then the problem is that the BP's become expensive. Any of the Breer's will sell, but the BPs are $$$ and the materials to craft them are also $$$. You keep seeing people's globals on OA-101. But look at the price of the BP!
and then there are the BP s that just plain are not out there. I wanted to do carpentry when I started this game. But outside of Pall stools and nallo lamps, (c'mon who wants to make plugs anyways?) there just plain were no I mean none any BP s that were interesting. Tables, chairs, shelves, just plain not there for any price. so ... I like to craft, and do, but usually it's stuff I can make with what I find or loot. I build up a stockpile of stuff, go to http://www.candyman.se/pe/bobthebuilder/v2/ (Bob the builder) and see what can I make with what I have and then go to the crafting machine. |
