Hello
![]() I've read a lot of conflicting info on where to put the slider when crafting, especially for skilling dampers... So decided to do a little test! You can thank Dee for this! I allways crafted at full Quantity before he suggested full Quality produces more Metal Residue, meaning a beter return on your investment and less peds lost! The Test: 2 Standard Damper runs of 1000 clicks, one on full Quantity, the other on full Quality, to keep things as equal as possible I used a BP with a QR of 100 on both runs The Results: Cost per test: 1000 Lyst @ 116% = 46 PED 2000 Oil @ 110% = 33 PED Total Cost = 79 PED ********************************* Test One Results: Slider = Full Quantity Lyst Returns = None Oil Returns = 54 (2PED) Enmatter Res = 819 (9 PED) Metal Res = 692 (8 PED) Dampers = 2892 (38PED) Total Return: 57 PED (A loss of 22PED) ********************************* Test Two Results: Slider = Full Quality Lyst Returns = 21 (1PED) Oil Returns = 0 Enmatter Res = 1890 (19 PED) Metal Res = 2185 (26 PED) Dampers = 1495 (20PED) Total Return: 66 PED (A loss of 13PED) ***************************************** Skills Gained This test was only 1000 clicks each, so skill gains are very low and therfore not very accurate, but still show a big difference between Quanity and Quality. Skills prior to testing: Engineering 574 Mechanics 362 Manufacture Mech Eq 611 Quantity Skill Gains: Engineering +10 Mechanics +9 Manufacture Mech Eq +13 Quality Skill Gains: Engineering +8 Mechanics +4 Manufacture Mech Eq +9 The skills gains from the run set to Quantity were far superior to those on the Quality setting... BUT, There are two factors that will affect this result. The Quantity test was done first, when skills are lower, so skill increase will be easier, although, with such a small difference this probably wouldn't show in the results. Also, the skills are only shown in whole numbers, so the actual results could be like the following, which closes the gap considerably: Quantity Skill Gains: Engineering +10.00 Mechanics +9.00 Manufacture Mech Eq +13.00 Quality Skill Gains: Engineering +8.99 Mechanics +4.99 Manufacture Mech Eq +9.99 Even if this was the case, which isn't very likely, the skill gains on Quantity still far outweigh those on Quality. ***************************************** Lastly, Here are the BPs that were looted during each test: Quantity Test BP loot: I Basic Servo I Basic Pump I Basic Sheet Metal V Durable Motor V Durable Motor (This isn't a typo, 2 of them dropped! )Quality Test BP loot: I Basic Sensor II Metal Ruds III Standard Hinge V Electropositive Modulator V Hardened Bolts VI Hardened Foil Here the Quality test out performed the Quantity test on BP quantity and quality, however, a more accurate drop comparison test would need many more clicks. ********************************************* So... It seems like the same story we see over and over. If you want to skill faster... Be prepared to lose more money along the way! ![]() Having read the OA 101 skilling experiment posted elsewhere in the forum it's obvious that a BIG initial investment is the way to go, most returns on skilling come from the BP drops... and skilling on Dampers rarely produces anything with a decent markup! Obviously we can't all deposit thosands of dollars to fast track it on amps... So hopefully this little experiment will help those trying to stretch their EU budget and gain skills at the same time. PS... No Globals during testing ![]() |

This is very useful information for noober crafters such as myself.
Maybe a followup test as your skills get over 1k , I for one would like to see the results from the same avatar to keep it consistent. Bones |

All the quantities before and after are definitely correct, though I can't say for sure on the price, it does look like I've put oil and Lyst back to front. I'd say work the data based on how much you buy and sell oil and lyst for and the figures will be correct for you. I tend to get a little lazy waiting for a deal so scan the buy outs and get the best I can when i need it. I'll recheck my figures based on oil 117% and Lyst110% and post them below, as it will affect the cost of the run... I might not be losin gas much as I thought Ooooh.. Dee, Both tests on a full QR BP (It's right up the top, you must have missed it ) |

2000 Oil @ 116% = 46 PED 1000 Lyst @ 110% = 33 PED Total Cost = 79 PED But all the figures are the same, I just wrote Lyst and Oil in the wrong place..... That's what happens when your clicking finger gets RSI ![]() |

nice experiment, but 1k clicks is not enough to see whats better you need more, take a look at my previous experiment:

Quantity Skill Gains per ped lost: Engineering +.4545/ped, Mechanics +.40909/ped, Manufacture Mech Eq +.5909/ped Quality Skill Gains per ped lost: Engineering +.6154/ped, Mechanics +.3077/ped, Manufacture Mech Eq +.6923/ped Here, it's showing that quality lets you do more clicking and get more skills for your limited ped budget. Granted, 1K clicks a relatively small data set: once I have a budget to spend, I'll track every session from 0 to whenever. ![]() |

Sorry this doesn't prove quantity or quality is any better than the other except it's random, or there's more factors involved.
I did the same thing. My results were backwards. More on Quantity than Quality. My BP is 100 as well. Quote:
