Yeah, I didn't know that...that sucks. I think MA should provide a small gift to graduating disciples, and not rely on mentors to provide a gift, as a mentor is not obligated to. After all, MA really wants them to graduate anyway, don't they? A disciple who graduates is most likely someone who has deposited, or been extremely lucky and got some items that decayed (and thus MA made money from it either way).

The item could be something like I proposed in this post on the "Rep Gun" in my Shooting the Sh!t thread; an item that is worth 0 PED value and uses dung or fruits as ammo to +/- rep someone in-game.

Or maybe 'Disciple Edition' items? Probably (definitely?) not as good as ME (since Mentors go out of their way, and for disciples the reward should be that they had a tutor for their beginning weeks. Though in many cases, such as this one, they didn't). But perhaps D editions of Jester-D1s, TT finders, etc. etc.

Have enjoyed following your NoobQuest Pinky Thanks!

And if I happen to run into Vladimir Aquilla Monomach (albeit near impossible since they are never on much!) he'll get some nice flaming in local chat

Nice story Pinky. Although no doubt it is an acurate description of your time as a 'new noobie' I have met many many people who have a totally different experience, most of whom have quit after their first few weeks .

Anyhow, as long as both the good and bad are represented...

It is a telling shame that people KNOW MA won't do anything about their behaviour and as such show a total disregard for others (your mentor...)

Maybe MA should be moreproactive?

Anyhow, grats on your beacon.

Is it? And what about hours spent on learning controls, how the game works, tp runs, hunting and mining lessons? What about getting them out from dangerous places when they stuck somewhere? What about organising events for them, so they have some fun in their newbie lifes? What about buying sweat from them above market prices to help them a bit? Your statement is a bit unfair...

Pinky, you should count this beacon with markup in. It's not that rare these days that ppl even before graduation receive their "graduation gift" from EU. Last examples: my soc mate's disciple received 400 ped Growth Molecules (yes, shitty %, but 400 ped for a newbie (and not only a newbie) is lots of cash), my last disciple received 700 ped from allo... It happens. It's not thing related only to luck, it seems to be rather MA marketing strategy. It's easier to get a hof being a newbie than medium level player these days.
Life of a newbie is not that bad. You are not concerned about how to upgrade your armor and weapon to give u enough firepower, as low level armors are cheap, there is lots of cheap low level weapons. Whatever u choose, plasma, blp or laser, you always can find a cheap L toy to skill with, by spending only tens of ped on it. Plus, the word is new, interesting and full of live. Later on it becomes a bit grey...

I think you misunderstood Herb's post, Sarah. In fact, your "Is it?" question doesn't even seem to make sense, unless you forgot to quote more of what Herb said. He was referring to disciples not receiving any gift from MA, and likely not their mentor, either; and may find themselves in the unenviable position of 'being stuck with' a deadbeat mentor. Of COURSE disciples learn a ton of things--they ALL do.

And I'll agree with you that Pinky should consider the markup of the beacon. It isn't just a 50 PED loot, it's the rarity of the item that is most significant, and this is what makes that "silent HOF" impressive.

Ranged Damage Assessment

Great post Pinky!! And as far as the bad mentor I hope MA does actually do something about it. If only it was possible to mass herd the @$$hole to a PvP area and have a mass of noobs opalo him to death for a couple of days

I meant item-wise - I explained in a following post that most newbies rewards are the knowledge they recieve, except for cases like this. And I didn't come up with the idea that disciples don't get anything / need to recieve an item, I just followed onto it.

EDIT - I type slow. Just read what Coel wrote in the post above mine

Bah! The couple of weeks where I was very inactive in the Legion due to RL issues! Haha, I think I heard about the beacon in the soc chat though
Loved the articles!
