Talk is cheap (unlike the cost of playing) and ideas that are sooooo secret may not be ideas at all, just good old misdirection to keep everyone thinking there is something to strive for.

Furthermore, if these vivid insightful ideas are years away from implementation then they are worth jack shit.

The citizens of this universe need to be informed of what is happening, when its happening and how it will improve the game. Not that a wonderful universe exists inside someones head. I can smoke a joint and get the same effect and its a damn sight cheaper.

Coming soon to a universe near you is not an answer.
Yes, most of his ideas were years away and a lot of them are decades away from being implemented. Simply because they're not possible to implement with the technology aviable today. But as computer power gets bigger and latency gets lower and all sorts of other technological progress is made he will be able to realize more and more of his ideas.
How come they're worthless just because they're not possible to implement right now?
It's too bad we can't just clone Jan into a few hundred copies and have him personally talk to everyone here, and everyone visiting MA at conventions. Because he has a lot of really cool ideas that will change not only entertainment but every day life for all of us.

Your words not mine, and I reckon it is the current development of Entropia that the vast majority wish to be informed about. Therefore, in the here and now they are worthless.

I'm pretty sure wikkerman just offered some constructive criticism, that being that we as a community who like this game and continue to play feel that the level of communication from Mindark is frankly terrible.

I don't think that is unreasonable to state, regularly.

Ultimately from this article, we heard that there was a dinner (excellent PR), that there was fairly open discussion (also great) and prizes for hard work (fantastic).

However there was no meaningful content, simply a "good news" story.

thats not the way he said it

And they are not worthless if they will change the future of a game that (at least I) will play in several years too?

It matters not the order in which he said it.

He asked a question of me to which he had already given the answer.

Please read and fully understand the whole before responding to the part.

You will also notice that throughout I have been referring to the present NOT the future.

Let your brain get in to gear before allowing your mouth to move into overdrive.

What is it you want to know then? They've already told us everything they can for short term updates.
They will implement CryEngine2, they have made deals with a bunch of different companies to make new planets, they have given a brief explanation on how the new planets will work together with the Entropia platform.

Due to the RCE nature of EU they can't give us a detailed list of changes every VU before they happen, even if they know exactly what will be in the next update. So even though
"The citizens of this universe need to be informed of what is happening, when its happening and how it will improve the game."
would be nice in theory, the practical consequence would be that it would destabilize the entire economy.

They can however tell us the general long term direction they are going. The people that attended that dinner are all planning on being here for a looong time, and were thrilled to hear the the CEO of MindArk have plans for EU for decades to come. And I know a lot of the people here on the forum feel the same way.
If you're the kind of person that wants everything now now now though I guess it's hard to understand how the rest of us appreciate that they have long term visions.

Dinner wasnt a PR-thing. If it had been, I bet they would have tipped me to make a report on it beforehand.
Before the alcohol washed away my memories

...That being said, the ideas might be interesting to some. Even though you, Wikkerman, find it beeing worth "jack shit" Im pretty sure some find it more interesting to see what goes on inside the CEO of the MMO many of us spend alot of time in, then what you see after you "smoke a joint". One of these two people might have a impact on our future in EU, and I have a faint idea that it isnt you.

I could have just kept it all to myself tho.

To Mjukis -

They will implement Cryengine2 - Take a look at the company interim statement Q4 2007 "is expected to heavily increase the graphical experience of Entropia Universe" - its going to look pretty.

they have made deals with a bunch of different companies to make new planets - and then sworn them to secrecy.

- it might collapse the pyramid and a smokescreen to hide behind

They can however tell us the general long term direction they are going. The people that attended that dinner are all planning on being here for a looong time, and were thrilled to hear the the CEO of MindArk have plans for EU for decades to come. And I know a lot of the people here on the forum feel the same way. - I would be utterly gobsmacked if the CEO of any company did not have long-term goals.

If you're the kind of person that wants everything now now now though I guess it's hard to understand how the rest of us appreciate that they have long term visions. - Dont you dare attempt to marginalise me because I dont share your appetite for swallowing any bullshit diversionary tactic thrown my way.

To Skam -

Your article was never criticised at any point but seeing as you have thrown your hat in the ring I will respond.

Take off the rose tinted spectacles.

You seem to think you have had a visitation from God or something but JWT is the CEO of a company - nothing more nothing less.

He held court and shared with you and others his visions and ideas for the future. He is not some mystical guru before who we must all bow down. His job, first and foremost is to make money for the shareholders of the company. Money that comes from paying customers like me and no doubt you. I, as a paying customer, would like a bit more detail of the current plans ie immediately post CE2 implementation, to ensure that I will continue to get what I consider to be value for money (something that has been slipping of late).

However, it appears from your article that when you made any attempt to broach the subject of the here and now you were met with the usual stoney silence.

As for your final paragraph, I refer you to the last answer I gave Mjukis.

DAMN you guys are mean. I was going to be nice in this post and today in general. But all this talk about Drinking, and smoking WEED (Joint), and talking about PED (Money). And the very heated debate is driving me crazy….. Now I’m going to have to leave work early and go find some WEED, then have mad sex with someone’s daughter as I drink a glass of wine, then get some food. And hope I can POGO for some PED in the sun…… DAMN. I hate you all.

P.S. Does any women want to join me? Hint hint (Skam)
Hey baby, How you doing?

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE
