NEVERDIE Vs Deathifier: The DNA Bid war I logged on today to discover the auction for the recently discovered Letomie Fossil Eyelense was nearly over. A quick look told me something interesting was happening - two of Entropia's biggest and most famous land owners were both going for this first-time looted DNA part, and I had logged on just as the bidding was getting heated...The DNA part was looted by Timon Stuka Miles while mining, about one week ago. After a short auction here on Entropia Forum, Stuka made the decision to place the DNA part on the in-world auction system instead. Probably a wise choice, as appraisals from other forum members for the part only ranged between 38k to 50k PED, with Doer noting that "this is one of several parts. It could wind up being a 100k+ mob. " Little did anyone realise the value would go way beyond that for just this one individual part! When I logged on, the bidding war had already been going on for two hours, with NEVERDIE and Deathifier trading bids in an attempt to secure the new DNA part for one of their LAs, and hopefully bring this creature back to life within Entropia Universe. I already had NEVERDIE on my friend list from previous interviews, but had never spoken to Deathifier before, other than a quick thank you for a party held as his mansion. Fortunately the Avatar DJ was online, who was able to facilitate an meeting with Deathifier. (Thanks DJ!) I introduced myself, and got to chatting with Deathifier about this exciting auction. Curious to know why he was bidding so much for only one part of the DNA needed to recreate this extinct Calypso creature, I inquired as to whether, if he won this auction, he would be prepared to bid the same for any future parts. He of course pointed out that this would give away all his plans and not really be in his favour to divulge. Realising he had a point, I was curious to know just how many parts there are to make a full set of DNA; "DNA in general has a highly variable number of parts. I feel like MA talking about loot," Deathifier quipped, realising he wasn't answering any of my questions. We agreed DNA is "dynamic" and moved on... "There could be less than half a dozen parts, or more than 2 dozen, some distinct parts, or some multiple parts of the same."With this amount of variability, I figured he must be insane bidding so high when he could end up with a part that might not be useful for a long time, like NEVERDIE's Unique Atrox Egg, for example. "It's one of the risks, yes. I certainly have plenty of DNA parts I have never finished." I pointed out the irony that he was currently bidding at a price that was approximetly half of what he paid for Treasure Island, with the bids still climbing. I wondered what he thought of being part of the EU success story. "I was very pleased the Treasure Island auction helped propel Entropia into the world spotlight, as well as it being very interesting to fellow Entropians who packed out the auction houses." Deathifier and NEVERDIE certainly seem to have a history of providing exciting auction battles; in this one, I noticed NEVERDIE was waiting until 1 or even zero minutes left on the auction before placing his bids (the auction extends for five miuntes each time a bid is placed with less than five minutes remaining). I asked if this technique caused Deathifier a problem, but he assurred me this was just the pair of them mucking about, and that as the bidding started at 8am local time for him, he was quiet happy to be there all day. Then, just as I typed a cheeky quip about wondering if Deathifier secretly hoped that NEVERDIE's PC would crash, ND logged out of the game with zero minutes left of the auction, the moment he normally placed his next bid. ![]() ![]() Deathifier won the auction for the Letomie DNA part, but rather than celebrating, all he could do was show concern that he had won the item unfairly if NeverDie had lost connection. It took five minutes or so before NEVERDIE relogged; in that time Deathifier confirmed from his Matter Refiner that more DNA parts were going to be needed. You may have noticed I have required one to read the entire article before disclosing the final sales price (mean, yes I know ). The auction was finally won by Deathifier for an astounding 127,271 PED - more than $12,700, making it one of the most expensive items ever sold in Entropia Universe!![]() Ok, so what happened to NEVERDIE you may wonder. Well, I sent a PM and got the answer for you. Asking if his logout was intentional or a bug, NEVERDIE assurred me it was intentional, "I just wanted to add a little drama" he replied. The price was obviously getting higher than NEVERDIE was willing to pay, but after paying out $10,000 for the Unique Atrox Egg, I wondered why this was the case; "I have been focussing on skills and armour lately and dont want to have to sell it all again - I want to spend some time enjoying it. I only just got back to having a full set, passed the 200 HP mark and got commando back from when I got the bank." I was quite suprised at this, and he explained; "I normally give up the gear for land stuff, but this time I have other plans..." Maybe those plans are heading down to TI for a hunt on the new mob? "Sure, I will be down there for a few hours to see it" ND assurred me.Concerned that Deathifier was still fretting about how he won the auction, I let him know NEVERDIE's logout was intentional - "lol, he's a good showman!" - I don't think anyone can argue with that, but it's going to be interesting if the theory many are holding to proves true: "Letomie" - an anagram of Omeleti, meaning a certain Egg will be required to ultimately construct this DNA... |
