Sure it is a good idea for MA to get in the press for advertisment but it all depends on what market they are trying to target. There is lots of complaints of people being ignored by MA but maybe that is intentional! Maybe MA dont want players who deposit $50 a month so they ignore them. Only MA can answer and we can only speculate but MA seem to pride themselves on people spending crazy amounts of money here and let the press known. That cant be good for the longevity of EU as it will price many players out of the game and put off potential new players.

I see your point but I know sevral players that have join arfter press release for CND and Treasure Inland. Also people who spened crazy amounts of money as you but it would make MA more atractive to investors.

As a whole these very expensive things benefit us all, but I agree, there could be more for mid-level spenders. We will have to wait and see what the future holds!

My concern is that for MA to attract new hype about themselves it has to be bigger and better than the previous news. So the prices have to escalate and in my eyes (i cant surely be the only one) majority of the prices are far to high anyway.

Land prices will have to go up to spark any interest about EU because who is going to care that in the month of August land only sells for $50k? Naturally it makes it better for everyone who plays as it means it was more affordable but it wont generate any excitment outside EU as it does not have the Wow factor. As MA lives of the PR excitment generated by the media they need the wow factor so prices must go up. Its a vicous spiral that in my eyes is going out of control.

I've been examining them again.

Total Gross Deposits into EU for 2005 was 47,320,820 PED
Total Gross Deposits into EU for 2004 was 29,072,475 PED
Total Gross Deposits into EU for 2003 was 6,492,297 PED

I'm more likely to trust the accounts then the press release too be honest as theres far larger penalties for lying on it ;-)

Total Withdrawals are highlighted on page 14:

From the Net Sales of 28,218,752, EU made an operating profit of 6,543,950 SEK.

One thing to note, the accounts show that MA are taking ALL cash deposited into EU to do their accounts. Its not just decay they are taking.

See...something is wrong....no matter how you look at it, $165M was not taken out of he game...there isn't $165 in there and I doubt MA has $165M in a pile ready to dish out when people want to withdraw.

The article must have a typo or the writer didn't calculate PEDS/USD/SEK right somehow or perhaps used USD when they should have used PED.

There is just no way that $1.65 Bilion Peds fom inside the game were converted to $165M USD and transferred to account outsdie the game.

Claims like this MA should be careful about. There are legal and security issues with transferring large amounts of money like this. A few governments track international money transfers and PEDs seem like an easy way to circumvent this...

Yes i think it attracts ppl...what were the big new player waves... the sale of TI for 26,5k$ (which was alot back then but turned out being a bargin if u look at it now), then the sale of CND for 100k$ (not so bad for 20 LA's (domes) though u need a ride there)...and as it says on front page sales for july LA auctions got a nice 213k$ in...that's twice CND's price for what...half the number of LA's

so it did get ppl in and will keep doing so...and if u think about it for a sec it is normal...the ppl attracted by these sales + the positive PR blabla makes them think "well there must be a reason other then insanity for those ppl to put that much $$ in a game...it's 'free'...let's try it

Aren't most who sign up just signing up for the "freakshow" appeal?

I know that none of the people I have ever told about pe have said "cool, that looks great I'll join and buy a gun for $50,000", in fact just about every one of them have said "WTF is wrong with these people" or "Are they stupid" etc.

When I tell all types of people about pe and practically all of them think its incomprehensible to put that much money in a game then I wonder how many people who sign up actually stick around.

Of course MA don't want the gaming community to play pe thats why its no longer a game (even though they promoted it to gamers and on gaming sites) - everyone knows it is in fact a game.
Gamers aren't known for being wealthy however.

There is a problem there, and the landowners will back me up on this, I am sure:

-There are only so many players in the game
-even with new players joining, many still leave
-few of the LA's have unique mobs to hunt
-there are only so many players who can hutn the higher-end mobs that exists on mots LA's.
-on LA's with lower level critters, LA owners must keep taxes low or prizes high to keep players from hunting the "free" wild types.

The LA's that come online the revenue for most if not all LA's should drop. People are paying higher and higher prices for land that will be brining in less and less money. MA doesn't set the price of the land, but they make the profits from it's sale.


In the US, the government pays farmers to NOT grow certain crops to make sure the market isn't flooded and then price of those crops go so low that farmers will not be able to make any moeny selling their crops. Seems, stupid...why not make them grow OTHER crops? Anyway, I don't see MA paying LA owners to not develop their lands or to turn down the spawn rates...

And...that is a problem I have with a few of your threads. You are of a "protectionist" mindset: protecting your assets and willing to overlook MA's problems and not seeing the unfairness of these innacurate press releases as long as your assets are protected.

You are blurring the line between making money and enjoying the game. If you enjoy making money, great. I enjoy playing a good game. MA and PE have their problems, but they are not unmanageable given time and effort by MA. Do we not give them enough income? If they cannot work with what we give them already will throwing MORE money help?

My problem is MA making outrageous claims to hype the game and get people to join. Some will stick it out, many more will just say "screw this" and leave.

In America, we often have mats in front of our houses that say "Welcome". WE want our guests and visitors to have a pleasant time when they vists. Now imagine my freinds dropped through the mat, got stuck in the ground, and had to relog everytime they wanted to visit...they will likely come back less and less...

I want new players and new opportunities, but EU has feet of clay. WE get thousands to join, and thousands to leave, imagine if ALL those that joined stayed? You seem to have made a lot of money on those that choose to leave, so perhaps you are less motivated to have MA make a game where people want to stay?
