![]() WoF Stage 2 is well under way. After two weekends of frantic globaling, the Stage 2 groups are beginning to take shape. Nevertheless, there's plenty of time for things to change in the final round this weekend. WoF Stage 2 involves the remaining 24 teams battling it out in six separate groups. Each team has a match against each of the opposing teams in their group and points are awarded for all globals during the match on Calamusoids, Hiryuu, Umbranoids and Warriors. Additional bonus points are available for a variety of mobs, winning your match, finding a HoF (any HoF will do - Ireland found a lucky 87 PED Warrior on the HoF table briefly, pictured right), and more. Teams consist of four players, although a full team is not obligatory - Team Serbia has won a match fielding a single avatar! The top two placed teams in each group qualify for Stage 3.The mob selection makes for some interesting choices in this stage. Umbranoids have been quite popular, most likely due to there being good, dense single-mob spawns available. Warriors, being bigger mobs, have been very popular, although lack of single-mob spawns make them a challenge. Team tactics have come into play, with many teams fielding support teams to pick off the drones and provide fapping services for the main team! Calamusoids have been rather unpopular presumably due to their awkward location in PVP 1. And not a single team has managed a Hiryuu global yet! So, what's in it for the winners? Well, there's even more to play for now! MindArk has generously added the prize of WoF Winner's Bomber Jackets to the members of the winning team, to add to the EF Adjusted-Membership prizes and, of course, the fame and prestige of being a WoF Champion! Group A sees Denmark, Eudoria, Netherlands and Portugal battle it out. After winning both their games, Denmark has a pretty convincing lead. Despite losing points after falling foul of the Missing-In-Action (MIA) rule, which requires all team's members to report back to the start point within a certain time after the end of each match, Portugal held on to second place in the group. Third place Team Eudoria will be doing all they can to change that when they meet Portugal in the final round. Netherlands is struggling a little and will need a remarkable performance against the group leaders to progress into Stage 3. Scotland and Sweden look set to progress from Group B. Wales needs something of a miracle to recover from a slow start, whilst Poland will be hoping for a good performance against Scotland and some further Swedish MIA penalties in order to sneak into the second spot! ![]() Group C sees Romania and France in very strong positions. Romania also has the highest single loot of the competition, a 1214 PED Warrior Gen 05. Serbia will be hoping to field a full team in the final round in order to try to regain lost ground despite the valiant efforts of their single-man team, Maxa, so far! Team Amethera is busy praying to Lootius this week, and should they progress into Round 3 it would be pretty conclusive proof of the virtual God's existence! ![]() Romania and Austria enjoy the luckiest 60 seconds in WoF history Ireland leads Group D with two storming performances so far. Not only have they tallied up more points than any other team, they also hold the fastest global record (three minutes into a match), the fastest and smallest HoF record (87 PED, twelve minutes into a match), and best-timing record - scoring a global 3 seconds before the end of the match was announced! England and South Africa are closely matched in points, and either could take second place. Estonia will need something very special against England to qualify. ![]() The USA team dominates Group E with a cast of uber hunters. In Round 1, they only fielded a team of three (Mercury, Stryker and Linguist) and still managed 10 globals to score 81 points, the most achieved in a match so far. With other members of Top 10 Societies to call on, and yet more vying for a place in the team, they could be a tough team to beat. Australia also looks strong in the group, while Greece and Canada need to find something special in the final round to survive. The final group sees Italy in a commanding lead. Austria, in second place, has a reasonable lead on Germany who'll be looking to recover from a non-scoring round 2. Belgium struggles in fourth position but won't be counting themselves out yet! ![]() The final round of Stage 2 takes place shortly, over the final weekend of March. Watch the globals in-game or keep track of them at the World Of Firepower Subforum. Best of luck to all involved! Everybody will be following with interest - even our friend Governor Dumpty, who we caught up with at the end of Round 2: Jimmy: So Governor, I hear you've been enjoying the WoF? Dumpty: Yes! My oh my, isn't it wonderful? Jimmy: What have you enjoyed most about the WoF? Dumpty: Well, even the Feffoids are watching it! They seem to have completely forgotten about attacking my fort in all the excitement. Jimmy: Ah, I see.... And how are the repairs coming along? Dumpty: Great, great! This WoF business is quite lucrative! We might even get the Voting Terminal working again at this rate! Jimmy: And you're not afraid of the Feffoids attacking again? Dumpty: No, no, the Feffoids don't scare me anymore. In fact, I think I'll HoF and I'll WoF and I'll blow their camps down! Jimmy: Er, um.....Okaaaay then. Thank-you Governor. Acknowledgements: Thanks to Hurrikane for providing me with a great supply of WoF facts and figures. Thanks again to Clam for the WoF images and tables. Many more images, tables, facts and figures can be located in the WoF Subforum. |
